Latest commission, thank you Zk!

Tea preparation busyness scale: 1) Heat water, make tea, drink tea while it's still hot. 2) Heat water, make tea, get distracted while tea goes cold. 3) Heat water, never make it to teapot before it goes cold. 4) Multiple repetitions of 3)

Now that WW3 is looming, I think I am too old to be conscripted to the front, so I intend to take on the role of eccentric madam of a state run brothel near the trenches. I shall wear slightly shabby furs, too much costume jewellery, drink gin in the morning, & have all the girls call me “mother.”

It is so nice, in this crazy, ever-changing world of ours, to have something constant and consistent, year-in and year-out. But why does it have to be wind in March in ABQ??

Went a walk today with my wife around the property of the Quaker community we now call our spiritual home, and took a contemplative stroll around the labyrinth. There's a lot of things in our world to grieve and be angry about right now, so I'm grateful for a place of peace.

Wow: JD Vance is apparently skiing in Vermont this weekend and the locals aren’t having it. Thousands have lined the streets in protest.

My latest piece for @teenvogue.com delves into the horrific story of popular skincare ingredient Retin-A. Before Retin-A was approved by the FDA in 1971, it had been tested on hundreds of incarcerated Black people in Philadelphia, without their informed consent. The survivors still bear the scars.

hypothesis: New Yorkers burnt a witch in colonial times and she put some kind of curse on them "to Bee Onlie Led By the Most Rascally of Menne"

This does *not* mean no flu shots in the US next year - not by itself, anyway. The WHO picked and published their recommended strains as always. This year. It’s an A/H1N1, an A/H3N2, and a B/Austria (+ a B/Phuket for quadrivalent shots*). US manufacturers *can* still use the WHO guidelines.

A Predator movie where the Predator shows up in Washington DC, but gets all bummed because there are no spines for him take as a trophy.

Rare reference to the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic in THE RED KIMONO (1925). While cholera, tuberculosis, the measles and the plague were all reasonably common in the movies, the flu was given a miss.

Not all men. Gomez Addams would never.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Oh, bless:

I was reliably informed by science fiction that when things got this bad there would be a cool new future drug to keep me unaware and complacent. Where is my soma? My Substance D? My Forgetall and Acceptol? My Plutonium Nyborg?

Regarding www.reuters.com/world/us/us-... : I mentioned this on Twitter a while back, but it is worth describing here, too. In 2022, I got a notice from the IRS saying that we owed ~$76K in taxes, plus penalties, from 2021. I thought it was a scam at first. It was a real letter, though.
