Sigh…

Epic vandalism.

One year has passed since The British Mountaineering Council launched our film 'Access Land', and started explicitly arguing for a rules-based system of access. /THREAD www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOSY...

Seems apt right now.

Made me laugh. Love that the French are luring Pooh with the aid of a big pot of miel!

I’ve been following economist and former trader Gary Larson for a while. He breaks down why the super rich, such as Musk + rising inequality between the ever richer super rich & the rest of us is a huge issue. One that is only getting worse. Well worth a watch. www.instagram.com/reel/DFAG7l-...

Word of the day is ‘catch-fart’ (17th century: an obsequious individual who will always follow the political wind.

We're very excited for the publication of Motives Unknown: A Northern Crime Anthology. Out 1 May 25 from @deadinkbooks.bsky.social. This anthology features many gripping crime stories, including 'That Crucible Summer' by former CBC student Pete Hardy. Pre-order: deadinkbooks.com/product/moti...

I hate to keep being right about Musk, but as his biographer I sort of have to be. UPDATE: Following sourced reports by PROOF and others, Elon Musk has admitted to cheating ruthlessly in video games for years. And he has expressed _zero_ remorse—which is consistent with his extremely low character.

I can't make all my Patreon posts free, but where new music is concerned, I always make a point of doing so because – especially in the current climate – excellent new releases deserve to find as many ears as they can. Here are my favourites from the week just gone. www.patreon.com/posts/freshl...

A beautiful tribute that speaks volumes to their friendship, their collaborations, and David Lynch's impact.

Clarifies how far from democracy things are moving already in the US. These were people who violently assaulted people on Jan 6 2021. They were rightfully charged and convicted. Trump has released them. Worse, he called them ‘hostages’ and compared them with the hostages held and released by Hamas.

2 books to add to already teetering tbr piles arrived today! Discovered Stephen Graham Jones 4 yrs ago and working my way thru his books. Thought Aickman came to my notice cos @robinince.bsky.social wrote of it in Bibliomaniac but not in his book index so no idea where I heard about him. Was recent.

I’ll end up writing lots over the next 4 years about the new US President. Right now, I just want to take a step back from all the noise and spend time on other interesting stuff, like this fascinating read: www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ja... Still writing cards despite the cost of stamps!

Word of the day is ‘depooperit’, from 18th-century Scots: ‘enfeebled both mentally and physically’.

Gorgeous!

The Sleeping Beauty- my latest cartoon for @theguardian.com

I’m also here for glode or glid instead of glided, and strove instead of strived. We’ve lost many of our strong verbs and these days simply tack on an ‘-ed’ in the past tense (texted? Why not ‘toxt’?). US English retains more of them: there is poetry in ‘dove’, as opposed to ‘dived’.

I love this so much. And, am now pondering whether this means the word for a minuscule icicle could be an ickleiceickle. Just takes enough of us to suggest it and hashtag the bejeesus out of it!…

As I have somehow surpassed 7k followers on here I thought it might be nice to do a giveaway: All 7 of my books to one lovely winner. Just share and like to be in with a chance! 😁📚

While I'm doing "-phile" words, here's another one that I assume most people know: ailurophile. Oxford English Dictionary: ailurophile, n.: A person who is fond of or enthusiastic about cats; a cat-lover. Cf. ailurophobe n.

Tis a hard life! We should all be more cat. Eat, drink, sleep, tit around for shiggles, assume others will like you because, well, you’re a cat and therefore perfect just as you are. (Exercise taken - moving from bed to windowsill)

Yippee! Still read my very battered book, published alongside the 1984 series, in the 12 days running up to Christmas, finishing with the final chapter as midnight approaches on December 24th. 7th December from 7:10pm, with introduction from director at 7pm. www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/b...
