New for DBD: the Stars’ defense is built on feet of clay, but can the rest of the roster keep it from toppling over? www.defendingbigd.com/can-the-star...

My plan to build a one stop shop for NHL Salary Cap and Analytics continues. I have enhanced the Player Stats tab on team pages with the addition of skater, goalie, forward line and defense pair advanced statistics. Simply select the desired report. thestanleycap.com/teams/edmont...

Hits are a silly stat, but NHL teams are still fascinated with them. With the trade deadline just 3 weeks away it’s worth revisiting them in the context of playoff performance. 1st step is trying to remove some of the noise in one of the NHL's most subjective stats open.substack.com/pub/puckover...

leaving the cruelty aside for just a minute it's absolutely humiliating to imagine being my age or older and getting excited because you think you've been given permission to say a bad word. what are you gonna do next, ride your tricycle past the end of the block

been playing around with how valuable NHL players are in terms of how much time they can safely chew off the clock, which i've defined as shifts where they break even or win the xG battle. let's express that as a % of 5v5 TOI (about 48 mins per game) and call it the Safe Shift %.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

Thought it might be interesting to reproduce Michael Schuckers and Brian Macdonald's paper on rink effects (arxiv.org/pdf/1412.103...) to see if anything had changed in the last 10 (!) years. Turns out, not really, until last season when the range of rink effects suddenly converge quite a bit

This Shot Zone Analytics page is not quite a finished product yet but I am putting it out there for anyone who wants to test it out and provide feedback. There are lots of options to see shot zone data by season, data ranges, situations teams, shooters, goalies. thestanleycap.com/analytics/sh...
