"All of these grifts are for a limited time, they won't last much longer...."

Jeffries: "Here's this gem from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. She's got legislation to arrange for the carving of the figure of President Trump on Mt Rushmore. Are we living in the times of King Nebuchadnezzar? What are we doing, folks?"

Your monthly reminder: Keep writing. When no one cares, persist. When things appear to be crumbling, keep at it. When it's difficult, push through. When you feel alone, listen to the stories in your blood. Just write.

If this is true, it's a shameful case of Senate Dems again throwing out *REAL* leverage in exchange for fake concessions. "Actually, genuinely oppose the bill that would enable Trump to hoover up billions of dollars in crypto cash" is the lowest bar imaginable for Dems. Why can't they clear it?

We're hearing rumors that Ds have worked out a deal to allow a cloture vote (ie, give up their leverage to stop the bill) in exchange for a vote on an amendment (which will fail). That's not acceptable. We need real opposition to Trump's corruption, not procedural gimmicks. Call your Senators now:

Interesting piece which reveals a lot of the tech bro ignorance of government: DOGEr comes in, expects to find lots of inefficiency, is at least willing to acknowledge he was wrong unlike the hard core ideologues.

NEW: The rate of sepsis in Houston surged 63% after Texas banned abortion. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where hospital leaders empowered doctors to intervene before patients’ conditions worsened, it rose just 29%.

"Finally—finally!—we can reroute those dangerous funds from writing workshops and elementary school jazz ensembles into more important things. Like tax breaks for billionaires. And tanks."

Omg, this is wonderful and what a great use of the app!

A battle over academic freedom is being waged in Texas, where the legislature is poised to give the state power to screen faculty, programs and courses in one of the country’s largest public university systems, and experts say the outcome could reverberate for higher education nationwide.

Somehow, Trump has declared that we’re under numerous national emergencies from the Southern Border Emergency to the Energy Emergency, Trade Emergency, Public Lands Emergency, and Immigration Enforcement Emergency. Yet these crises seem so “urgent” that he finds time to golf every weekend. Odd.

Make sure the "not in constitutional crisis yet" people see this one.

In practical terms, this is a tax on women - 71% of single parents are female. www.pewresearch.org/social-trend...

Developing: The White House has confirmed they are planning a military parade for the world’s most famous draft dodger.

No work of fiction - unless it was a deliberately over-the-top satire - would get away with depicting something so deranged, so ridiculous, so pathetic as these cabinet meetings. The government of the most powerful nation in human history: In the hands of a movement fully detached from reality.

Sometimes you find out people have writing beautiful things about your play and it makes your day! Enjoy this oldie: clevelandcentennial.blogspot.com/2018/04/play...

DOGE is assembling a sprawling domestic surveillance system—the likes of which we have never seen in the US. Trump could soon have the tools to satisfy his many grievances by swiftly locating compromising information about anyone he doesn't like. Our privacy laws aren't protecting us! Gift link.

This is a widely inaccurate & dangerous mischaracterization. The vaccine was developed in fetal cells obtained from two elective abortions in the early 1960s. There is not abortion debris floating around in the vaccine. And the Vatican has okayed its use. RFK Jr. is again spreading disinformation.

Super-PACs can accept unlimited donations from easy to obscure sources. And, rather notably, the funding for Trump’s attack on ActBlue seems to have come from just such a source: a super-PAC bankrolled by Elon Musk.

Why the F is Abrego Garcia still in a gulag, along with the other illegally kidnapped and trafficked hostages? Why isn't this front page news every day?

A MD judge has ordered that the US make a good faith request for the return of another person who the court found was wrongly extracted from the aid and dumped in prison in El Salvador.

Love this. Great use of executive order. All dentists must be 5’9”. All baristas have to read “The Dead Zone.” You can’t get a fishing license if your name is Gregg.

Barry Blitt’s first 100 days cover for the New Yorker.

An executive order will convert 50,000 government employees into de facto political appointees who serve only at the president’s pleasure, Robert P. Beschel Jr. writes:

I totally agree!

Writing takes mental space. It is hard to find mental space when you also have a full time job and two children. I wish I had a clone.

A government By the People, FOR the People, needs to be comprised of We the People, NOT “They the Billionaires.”

It was never just about schools, it was never just about libraries, and it isn't actually about the books. It's about finding a way to banish entire people, entire ideas, out of society, back into the closet or worse. www.chron.com/politics/art...

The bulbs I planted this fall, knowing the spring would need hope, have come up beautifully

This is your daily reminder that OUR VOICES MATTER and PUSHBACK WORKS. PS. Also very important to note that Harvard and other universities signing on to push back against Trump et al. had a lot to do with this outcome.

BREAKING: The constitutional crisis has arrived. We knew it was coming, just not when.

Happy April 25th to all who celebrate!

“If the Trump administration can get away with violating the Constitution because it knows the courts will be too slow to prevent it, then those constitutional rights simply no longer exist,” Adam Serwer writes: https://theatln.tc/QtHNdGCu

They are locusts

BREAKING: The Interior Dept just used a fake “energy emergency” to greenlight gas and mining projects on public lands. It’s a lie. There is no energy emergency. This is a giveaway to big oil.

This is really really scary and bad www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

If the United States learned any lesson from HIV, it should have been that negligence can be a death sentence, @katherinejwu.com. https://theatln.tc/xK6xmSnk

So sad and avoidable. It’s so detrimental to us and the generations who come after. A society that discourages studying science is sometimes also known as a theocracy and that’s equally terrifying.

"Transforming the I.R.S. and its tens of thousands of employees into political enforcers for the president — a doomsday scenario long feared by conservatives — would shake a foundation of American civic life..." www.nytimes.com/2025/04/18/u...

We all gonna die

Our government has devolved to middle school levels of pettiness and spite and under-developed brains and it is completely grotesque.

Americans are entitled to and should demand better than this from the President of the United States.
