“For International Women’s Day, great, celebrate women, but actually do more by actually holding social media companies to account because they’re driving hate and they’re driving women out of politics.” My ask for #InternationalWomensDay. www.ctvnews.ca/politics/art...

Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a time to celebrate the achievements of women in our progress toward economic and social equality; and to help identify the work we still have to do. Photo: At yesterday's City Hall IWD with Councillor Ariel Troster

The City is running a “Shop Local. Buy Canadian.” campaign to encourage residents' continued support for local businesses and Canadian products and services.

When I attended today's Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee (ARAC) meeting at Ben Franklin Place, I was pleased to be joined by several Poli-Sci students from Algonquin College! We had met recently to talk about municipal affairs and their assignment was to attend a City committee meeting.

Great thread below, as #collegeward moves into great transformation from R1 to multi-residential zoning. People often remind me Centrepointe was once a field. My parents faced tough housing choices in both Canadian recessions and we have lived in non-profit housing too. We are them, they are us.

It was a pleasure joining the Christ Church Bells Corners Pancake Supper on Tuesday. Thanks for an opportunity to share in your celebrations!

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada is replacing a storm drain on their property (connects the drains at Fisher/McCooey to Baseline/Prince of Wales). The intended end date of construction is May 1, 2025.

With all the rain on top of the snow, I'm seeing a lot of flooding on our streets (fyi, the City calls this "ponding"). If you're able, please go out and clear the catch basins on your block to help your neighbours. Here's an interactive map to help you spot the nearest ones. buff.ly/lcINZex

To the man honked to make sure I could see him flip me off this am: I can only wait so long watching a man straddle two lanes blocking traffic before I pick a lane. Use your blinker and communicate. This is a #IWD2025 parable. Women have places to go AND we can do so while still sharing the road.

The City asked me to remind you that March 20 is the due date for interim property taxes and Vacant Unit Tax declarations buff.ly/hTVr0SD buff.ly/QjaqZfc

Today, the Finance and Corporate Services Committee voted down Councillor Dudas’ motion to move away from social media platform X as a City communications tool. I've published some thoughts about the debate. buff.ly/eXxcOQu

Thank you to the 125 residents who came to Ben Franklin Place last night to talk to the City about the City View ditch rehabilitation. You had many excellent questions and very good points to make. I look forward to continuing to work with you as the project moves forward!

Signs are good that the ANCHOR program offering an alternative to police response to mental health calls is delivering benefits. The Citizen has a look at it this morning, and I've posted the City's memo to Council to which the article refers here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/iw5fe....

Rebuilding my network on Bluesky feels like I’m in the Wizard of Oz. And you were there, and you were there… all these people who I loved to connect with in the before times… feeling cautiously optimistic!

Bel-Air Community Association, in conjunction with residents who are involved with pollinator gardens, will be hosting an informational seminar on native plant gardening. Trinity United Church on Maitland, Sunday, Mar 9 1:00pm to 3:00 pm. Come out and learn how to make our world a better place!

There's a daytime winter parking ban today, beginning at 7 a.m. For a list of places to park, please visit ottawa.ca/en/parking-r...

Congratulations to Tyler Watt for becoming the new MPP for Nepean; and to MPP Chandra Pasma for her re-election in Ottawa West-Nepean. I look forward to working with both of you on behalf of the residents of College Ward. I also congratulate my Council colleague George Darouze on winning Carleton.

Ramadan Mubarak! To all those beginning the most sacred month in the Muslim calendar, I wish you peace, love, and a deep connection to your faith.

My monthly newsletter is now available, covering issues like the new Zoning By-law, City View ditches, winter maintenance, and much, much more! You can sign up for my newsletter at https://buff.ly/42Ppe9d

Hydro Ottawa will be replacing 16 poles on Baseline Road between Cobden and Sandcastle from March 3 to April 25 (weather depending).

Priorities! Priorities! Priorities! I've written some thoughts about decisions facing the City in the coming months and the trade-offs we sometimes have to make. Read it on my website and let me know your thoughts. https://buff.ly/4hTX4km

If you're heading toward downtown today, please note that Slater St is closed between Bank and O'Connor due to the collapse of a privately-owned parking facility. Expect delays.

If you live in certain parts of the City View neighbourhood, you might have received a letter in your mailbox last night informing you of the upcoming Ditch Rehabilitation Project info session next Monday, March 3 between 6:15 and 7:30pm in the Chambers at Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Dr.
