Refreshing this opportunity for those who missed it. Reviewing applicants now

Wrapping up my 14th trip to Yellowstone National Park, one of my favorite places. The story of the National Park Service here is one of conservation successes & significant errors & learning from both. I never fail to be inspired by the wildlife, the geology & the conservation history.

When the dismantlists talk about "trimming the fat" or "bloated" whatever relating to the federal government, remind them that there have been about the same number of federal employees since the 1960s. Meanwhile US population has increased by ~70% and GDP has increased 29-fold.

IMTs are quietly talking about what the current political environment means for this year's wildland fire suppression efforts, but it deserves a larger and more public consideration. 1/

Not only serving visitors but managing wildlife populations and habitat, doing cutting edge research and monitoring, providing LE and fire protection to neighboring communities and so much more.

Thank you, DOGE, for clearly visualizing what incredible value the American people get from their national parks. 17,700 permanent employees making an average of $81,000 a year serving 325 million visitors annually. Is there a better value in the entire federal government?

Small wildfires reduce the risk of large ones Moreover "a given total area that is burned in a few large fires will result in larger high-severity patches ... as compared with the same total area being burned in more numerous but smaller fires" 🧪🌏🔥 esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
