This is an excellent thread explaining the multiple (and magnitude) of the uncertainties in the paper, and accompanying press reports - probably also part of the reason the author of the paper was unnecessarily rude about him on the Today Programme this morning, playing the man instead of the ball.

This is why I'm on socials less often. My bird site feed is currently people, including Journalists, smarmily saying we can't import meat from the EU to the UK now because of Brexit. Then you click through and read that it's a temporary measure because of a Foot and Mouth outbreak in Germany.

Remember that little asteroid a few months ago we thought might hit us? Here are new #JWST images of it (taken with its two IR instruments). We now know asteroid 2024 YR4 won't hit Earth, is about 60 m across, and is covered in first-size rocks. It might hit the Moon though and that would be COOL
