If you want to know that blue maga is alive and well just read the replies under this post (and I hope they do investigate and charge him)

It’s wild we live with a legal establishment that takes pride in being principled about free speech when it comes to like Nazis marching in Skokie while law schools are banning Black affinity groups at law schools cause something something Trump’s EO

I usually put on some form of ambiance/white noise in the background while I’m reading. Usually it’s just like rainy weather or storm sounds, but tonight it’s some sort of dark academia with a gentle cello and piano, and Finny is very intrigued by the raven!

Tonight I’m tucking into The Bee Sting by Paul Murray, which I’ve wanted to read for some time. I got it cheap from ThriftBooks because it’s an ex-library book. Multnomah County’s loss is my gain! #LitSky #BookSky

If I did this, I’d have to spend my entire micro-retirement applying for jobs, since I can’t even get an interview and I’m already in a job

Congress people should have to send their list of five things they’ve done each week, to us, whom they represent and serve

happy Twin Peaks Day / give yourself a present 🌲☕️🌲

I think of people before the internet like mogwai, and social media was like feeding a lot of angry people and conspiracy theorists after midnight, and now we have gremlins

Might fuck around and disassociate in front of Tarkovsky’s Stalker tonight

Did a deep dive on our current democratic crisis, which *is* fueled in large part by Silicon Valley and reactionary tech bros. This article from 2013(!) sets the stage for where we find ourselves, everything from the embracing of monarchy/aristocracy, "scientific" 1/5 techcrunch.com/2013/11/22/g...

Running for president on a platform of burning down Silicon Valley

I fear I may have accidentally hexed Pope Francis instead

Spending what remains of my night with The Unquiet Grave by Cyril Connolly, who was the editor of Horizon, the British literary review (1939-1950). Its list of contributors was a who's who of mid-century lit, but The Unquiet Grave was Connolly's own cry from the heart during WWII #LitSky #BookSky

Almost missed #Caturday, but fear not, I have put together something special for you

I was talking about bird flu with a woman at orientation today and she was like can I get it from eggs and I said no if you cook them you should be good. But I said you can get it from raw milk if that's your thing and she was like oh I do drink that. Y’all pasteurization is what kills viruses

Spotted at the Food Lion today 😸

Making something a little Moroccan-inspired tonight for dinner

People having been ringing alarm bells for months now and those who can actually do something about it are going with the “head in the sand” approach…again

I’m old enough to remember when republicans got steaming mad because Obama hosted a beer summit

They better extend it. These telehealth appointments are usually *cheaper,* if their chief concern is about saving money (which it seems to be, versus, say, the actual health of Americans)

It’s been so cold and so cloudy for so long that I can feel my body searching for the sun like a flower

I’m a global risk manager and the State Department recently changed their country-specific guidance on LGBTQ+ rights and safety issues abroad to just talk about “LGB” issues. I can’t use this now to advise transgender individuals about precautions they may need to take, putting them directly at risk

New phase of physical existence just dropped

Long story short I put a hex on Donald Trump

Winter, twilight

“Granola bars are just candy bars in disguise” I know that’s why I like them

Sometimes I do believe in karma

I told my neighbor that I loved his wife’s blackberry cobbler and she made me one from some wild blackberries she had saved and frozen 😭 A taste of summer in the depths of winter. A much needed pick-me-up in warmth and humanity and fellow-feelingness

I feel like one thing we should do is stop calling things like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP “entitlement programs” — I get that it’s supposed to convey that certain people meet requirements and are thus entitled to the benefits, but it’s just bad from a PR standpoint

Practicing one of the rites of winter

The promised snow has arrived, turning the woods into a quiet, winter cathedral

Thank you @jessicavalenti.bsky.social for taking the time out of your vacation to articulate how outrageous and problematic this is. Highly recommend taking a min to read Jessica’s whole thread here & then subscribe to Abortion Every Day where she is doing truly singular work.

I was explaining to someone that the Smoky Mountains are a magical place and they were like “well I’ve seen the mountains out west, which are much more impressive.” And I just had to be like well the Southern Appalachians are just something special. I guess it’s one of those “iykyk” things
