I wish mine did that. She mushed me halfway across the state today.

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Whoops

It's abundantly clear that the man is mentally unstable.

My general guess is that we start seeing violence before summer even rolls around. America elected a fascist who is installing a fascist regime that is doing -- and will continue to do -- increasingly fascist things. And now they have control over *armed* domestic law enforcement and intelligence.

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

I see no lies.

Republican politicians support the destruction of NATO. The reason has nothing to do with NATO. In fact, they’ve backed NATO for decades. But they’re helping Trump destroy NATO so he doesn’t run anyone against them in the next primary and they can keep their meaningless congressional seats forever.

Associate Deputy Attorney General of the United States Emil Bove, ladies and gentlemen. We have become a farce.

This is all a good reminder that, “no help, no votes until the criminal conduct stops” is neither a big ask nor a politically perilous one.

This is horrifying. It's like seeing the sign at the liquor store or casino that says "2004" now. Gross.⏳

Well this is a thing the Dems and really the entire political and media establishment can't seem to grasp is the utterly unique situation in US history where we basically had this shadow presidency with this lunatic ranting and raving in everyone's ears for 4 years and sucking the air from the room.

Exactly. The Democrats need to CAMPAIGN. RIGHT NOW.

While I applaud this, at the same time my brain is going "oh gawd, who or what are they going to try to install in their now?"

WTF even is this?

I can't even muster the energy to be angry or snarky about McConnell and his serial fecklessness and responsibility in this conflagration anymore. Not when I have to spend what political time and energy I have to try to put out said arson job currently being done to our government and society. 😒

huh

Not a single Republican senator stood against Gabbard -- ignoring the law requiring the director of national intelligence to have deep national-security experience. She has none. She represents the disastrous rise of misplaced power, and a danger to the United States. www.axios.com/2025/02/10/t...

Half of me is like go ahead and throw all that capital into the money pit that is OpenAI. The other half is like great, how in the hell is he going to weaponize this junk into blowing up humanity into pieces to he can pick up the crumbs and try to colonize the moons of Jupiter or something?

Does this mean we're finally done with the whole Chiefs thing? At least some things still go right in this particular universe.

These people always think they can ride the bull and then tame it for their own ends.

Dear Democrats: Go to Africa, pull out your phones, and interview some of the people who are going to die because of Musk. Then wait for him to call them Untermenschen. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” www.thebulwark.com/p/how-to-win...

My general-ish theory is that Gen X got to experience the dotcom boom of the second half of the 90s in their 20s and square their own lives away -- property, a car, student loans, marriage, etc -- after the sluggishness of the 80s and early 90s but that another late 90s never happened.

Huh. If only somebody had told them. It's almost like voting based on resentment and retribution is not a way to get what you want.

Well and they've made strange bedfellows with the dorks they used to shove into lockers to commandeer our government, raze it, and make life miserable for the rest of us who moved beyond high school and made productive happy lives for ourselves, along with the poor and sick.

Again, if you stand up and push back then they back down. Because what they're doing is blatantly illegal. And they're wimps.

United looking for new ways to bankrupt its customers.

I would add that besides this weirdo feudal system and patronage mentality they have -- which is how craven kleptocrats who want to do bad things tend to view society and institutions -- there's also this unholy alliance that has formed of late btw the "capital" class and the blue collar class.

We've reached the chapter in Gibbon where the mad emperor is appointing magicians, acrobats, and paid agents of the Persians to the highest offices of state.

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work
