'Scotch' is one of the most underrated film noirs of all time.

It would be really heartbreaking if it's a "ships passing in the night" situation.

He looked like Gaspar Noe.

Do upside down sharks even have erections?

It couldn't have happened to a shittier bunch of people.

In their defense, a lot of songs only have a chorus and a few lines worth listening to. Not everything is Nick Drake.

What? They couldn't build a sectioned off piece of a high rise with scale replicas of the ghostbusters to accompany this smug display? So cool.

J Reitman is just an odd fig, he's always teetering so much between drama and comedy that I feel like if his films were subtitled they'd land better for me (it sounds rude saying I'd rather read than watch his movies, but I'm always on the cusp of it with his work).

Haha, YES, like that Studio 60 on Sunset by Sorkin, right on. It's so propulsive that it made me want it to be a music video more than a movie

See, and I think the cast was far better in Gesture, and it sounds like you're into the style of Sat Night more so than the humor maybe? Dig it man. The sets were all excellent, loved all the noise and bluster enough- but the camera work made me shutter, it was like STOP FOR A SECOND, get a moment
comment in response to post
On the werewolf movies, thoughts on Dog Soldiers? Sometimes I just miss being a part of little cult movies like that or You're Next- I hate not understanding why movies don't land with me (and who should know better?).
comment in response to post
Did you start laughing at the prosthetic noses? Was that supposed to be an in-movie joke? Let me know how you feel about Futile and Stupid Gesture, you may have missed it, but I can't help but compare the two.

That top/left image looks like the same street shot from Once Upon A Time In America

Those flicks are super tolerable. Very SyFy TV movies with gloss.
comment in response to post
Easy buddy. Why? Let me start with this question, what did you think of A FUTILE AND STUPID GESTURE?
comment in response to post
F-me, I am blanking on Brian Glover.

Okay, so now that's ringing a bell, we had kids starting Fight Clubs in high school but the funny part was, two of them who did were in my drama class with me and really sweet/funny fellas, but I can only imagine the loons who turned it into a way of life.
comment in response to post
It's really not bad, I do have a friend who's actual favorite movie it was. Give it a spin
comment in response to post
Now I feel bad that you went back and read that all to see if you could make a point, yeah, I think I'm gonna let you guys go ahead on this one, seems like you're both more informed and invested with it. Ha

Thankfully, no one said "better" or "worse", I did say the initial comparison was backwards. And for two characters that are "too different" to compare, I'd say you did a fine job sir.

Even though it's too drawn out, that whole act of the film where they are trying to recreate the circumstances in a controlled environment with Ron Silver was so bizarre and kind of real. I like when a movie says, okay, we'll listen, ghosts may be real, let's try this.
comment in response to post
Got ya. Was thinking just a character perspective, I heard the new DUNE Paul is gonna be a super asshole so I'm looking forward to it. It helps having the two generational sweethearts together, I'm not hip to their acting but they are landing for people for sure.
comment in response to post
This is backwards. Anakin is a cool idea in film, Atreidies is a cooler idea on paper, because one was written by a writer and the other was made by a filmmaker.
comment in response to post
That fucking soundtrack man. It's the most evil ghost I've seen in a movie. Really seems scary, EVERYTHING SLAMS!
comment in response to post
See, and you don't have to answer or recall verbatim, but I'm perversely curious, when you say long winded praises of Fight Club, what were those in essence? I thought people were just enjoying it as a music video- was there something else that was getting read into it outside of the comedy?
comment in response to post
Geena Davis tears down the house with selling that psychotic reality we're watching. I give her just as much credit.
comment in response to post
The only time I can relate to that was a year or so after it came out, I had seen it in theaters and nobody talked about it until video, then a friend I hadn't seen in a while immediately says "Is Fight Club not the best movie you've ever seen?" And that's when I realized "oh, this is a thing?".
comment in response to post
I'm trying to build up the tolerance to watch Oddity and Cuckoo (is it Cukoo?) back to back, I swear they're the same movie in my head.
comment in response to post
Where are these people? And sorry it came off like scolding buddy. We'll chalk it up to mutual frustrated hyperbole. I didn't know why you were upset about it but blanket statements are frustrating, it's hard to gauge when one is supposed to think that everyone is speaking in generalities.
comment in response to post
Just turn it on, if you don't like it, turn it off, but wait til you want to watch it.
comment in response to post
Not many people admit it, but there are fans of Charlie Sheen's The Arrival.
comment in response to post
Critics were aware, as it's likely mature filmgoers were also aware of this and the Fight Club sentiment. To say "nobody understands" is as absurd as how the films were originally received by whatever public surrounded you. Perhaps it's new to you.

Arnold Schwarzenegger played a clone in The Sixth Day, a twin in Twins, himself and Jack Slater in Last Action Hero, and two terminators across several Terminator films. But go ahead, you're doing great.
comment in response to post
Peter Sellers played twins/clones? Oh, he didn't. If anything, JCVD is the Mary Kate and Ashley or MKAA of the action genre.

It's almost become so passive that I feel like- fine kill the hard copy, but don't lose the EXTRAS, Christ, it was 50 percent of why I bought movies, I hate that extras are as good as dead.
comment in response to post
I still got the 2 Disc DVD, from back when, well I had two copies, I'm a commentary slut. I just put on one of my Scream Collecters editions the other day and it didn't read at all...the plight of nerd fucks who don't want to stream everything
comment in response to post
ha, just an animated depression marathon topped off by Grave of the Fireflies
comment in response to post
I will, can't wait brother
comment in response to post
My brother still thinks I lost one of his DVD's that you can still easily purchase, so I feel you with the hard copy stuff. There's nothing better.

It's oddly atmospheric, a very hip timely foreign movie in terms of it's themes and how it reminded me of movies coming out in the states at the time (I assume you're not US). Very simple story up front about these kids enamored with this musician. www.youtube.com/watch?v=B92O...

All animal movies that are animated will make me think of Watershed Down or Animal Farm
