If we’re serious about more efficient government and better everyday life in America - which we all should be - that means actually improving government, not cutting health care for poor people and slashing support for veterans.

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

20,000 in ruby red Utah on their feet, in community, and ready to organize for a better world. A better world is possible.

Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"

Doctors call it the Physiology of Poverty: The stress of trying to survive every day breaks the mind and the body. That's why working class people in America live SEVEN years shorter than the very wealthy.

So I’m getting started reading Values by Mark Carney and I want to share some shots of how this book starts because it makes me blink in surprise. If you haven’t read it, I think you might want to, because this is what Canada’s new prime minister was thinking about five years ago.

Today, we have more income and wealth inequality than ever before. But the greed of the oligarchs never stops.  Now, in order to get huge tax breaks, they want to cut back on Social Security, Medicaid and veterans programs. Together we can stop them. We must stop them.

The eventual fate of the GOP

Why are so many Democrats playing dead as Donald Trump runs roughshod over the entire country? I cover this (and more) on the latest Coffee Klatch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPj1...

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.

NEWS: After an emergency meeting of Indivisible groups across the country, Indivisible is officially calling on Senate Minority Leader Schumer to step down from his leadership position. indivisible.org/statements/i...

Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest and attempted deportation are straight out of an authoritarian playbook, not one of elected officials in a democratic society who claim to be champions of free speech. I’m leading more than 100 House Democrats in demanding answers. www.politico.com/news/2025/03...

When I cast my vote, I’m representing the nearly 8 million people in Washington state. In this democracy their voices count for something—so you better believe I am not handing over my vote in exchange for nothing. I am voting NO on the House Republicans' slush fund CR.

There is a lot of apprehension and anxiety in the higher education sector now. Understandably. ➡️ Folks, JOIN A UNION! There is a reason they are there. They got you a lot of what we have today. They will be amongst the only ones who will stand with you in the coming period. End of message.

The Washington State Democratic Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement:

Indeed.

Good morning. I am a firm 100% NO on House Republicans' slush fund CR. I will NOT vote to let Elon and Trump pick winners and losers with your taxpayer dollars. Senators were not elected to beg Trump for federal resources.

Yes a shutdown would have consequences. And a Republican President, Republican House, and Republican Senate would be responsible. They have acted in a unilateral and unprecedented way. Democrats cannot cave. They must fight back.

🚨BREAKING: With @raskin.house.gov & @scanlon.house.gov, I’m leading 100+ House Democrats in demanding answers on Mahmoud Khalil’s arrest. Trump’s attempt to deport Khalil is authoritarian & an attack on the First Amendment. We won’t sit quietly as his administration tries to dismantle free speech.

Senate Democrats must refuse to provide the votes to pass this partisan Republican spending bill. Stand up and fight for the American people like House Democrats did. Vote no on cloture. Refuse to be complicit in giving Musk and Trump a slush fund to destroy Americans lives.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

There are so many betrayals in Chuck Schumer's vote for the CR, but perhaps none worse than going against the request of the federal workers who've been most harmed by the on-going coup. The largest federal workers union asked @schumer.senate.gov to vote against the CR and he just ignored them.

Let's be clear: House Republicans' funding bill is Congress rolling over for the billionaire arsonists by rolling out a slush-fund filled, year-long continuing resolution that empowers Trump and Musk to pick winners and losers with YOUR taxpayer dollars. I will vote NO.

This is fucking chilling

You will be shocked, shocked to hear that "The Theory That Men Evolved to Hunt and Women Evolved to Gather Is Wrong"! 🙄 Duh! OF COURSE IT'S WRONG. But now there's a cool article listing the biological and evidentiary reasons, along with nifty diagrams. www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...

I will not vote to weaken my power to fight for WA state. I will not vote to turn YOUR taxpayer dollars into Trump & Elon's personal slush funds. I will vote NO. We should pass my short term CR, avoid a shutdown, and do our jobs.

Despite lawmakers on both sides of the aisle engaging in good faith negotiation, it’s clear that the Legislature will not adopt bipartisan legislation to place reasonable limits on the Governor’s emergency powers.

Grocery prices are soaring. Housing costs are skyrocketing. Retirement savings are plummeting. But Donald Trump thought today would be a good day to play car salesman.

We have already seen how Trump will threaten to cut off states and cities that disagree with him—and how Elon will warp government to benefit his companies and hurt his competitors. Voting against this CR is about our ability to be a voice for our constituents here in Congress.

@cantwell.senate.gov @murray.senate.gov I'm a Washington constituent. Vote against the CR, and urge your colleagues and leaders to do the same. A shutdown would hurt in the short term, but it's on behalf of Americans and our institutions. Don't relinquish leadership. Stand against corruption.

This bill isn’t a clean CR—it’s as dirty as it gets. Local projects? Cut. Veterans' healthcare? Cut. Social Security & Medicare? On the chopping block. All while Trump’s tariffs make everything more expensive and Republicans hide from their constituents.

A clear alternative to the House GOP funding plan is to pass my short-term bill with @delauro.house.gov to prevent a shutdown & finish work on bipartisan funding bills that invest in workers, keep our country safe, & ensure our constituents have a say in how federal funding is spent.

@warren.senate.gov tells @karaswisher.bsky.social that Trump and Musk are creating a "sandstorm" to trick Americans into handing over the country to billionaires

Yup. All of it.

Trump, Musk, and Republicans are stealing from the American people and the programs we rely on — just so they can pass tax breaks for billionaires. That’s not right, and we’re not going to stand for it.

well this made me cry over breakfast. to any democrats holding even a shred of power right now: look at what’s possible from people far more endangered and vulnerable than you and grow a spine, you fucking cowards www.erininthemorning.com/p/powerful-s...
