The NEH has decided to comply with fascist dictat. www.neh.gov/sites/defaul...

Dear friends in Boccaccio, Italian Studies and PCRS, would anyone be interested in putting together a panel on Boccaccio and race for this conference? #medievalsky

Congratulations again to Laura Ingallinella (@medievallaura.bsky.social), winner of the 2024 YI RnB4Culture Award! www.issnaf.org/post/congrat...

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Historian: Some call those years the Dark Ages but in reality that was a time of great intellectual ferment.

Great postdoc fellowship opportunity for Italian citizens in #medievalstudies (all disciplines) at the #AmericanAcademyInRome. Deadline 12 February 2025 #medievalsky #literature #arthistory #archaeology #skystorians #religion #musicology aarome.org/apply/italia...

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a manel at a conference, workshop, or symposium in Italian Studies, I would likely have enough funding to organize a two-day conference on the persistence of manels in Italian Studies, inclusive of sumptuous meals for all participants.

Not sure who made this & when but fittingly came across it in my downloads folder today:

I am incredibly proud to share the CFP for the first issue of "Riflesso: Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Journal of Italian Studies." Fellow Italian Studies instructors, circulate it with your students! The Editorial Board welcomes essays & creative pieces dealing with any aspect of Italian culture.

A book of anagrams based on the names of Neapolitan noblewomen by Giambattista Basile. Making a living as a poet is tough! #earlymodern

Seriously considering switching my phone notification sound into a recording of my own voice chirping, "You should be writing! You should be writing! You should be writing!" #iamnotwriting

I just submitted the review—forthcoming in the next issue of "Quaderni d'Italianistica"—to a book I truly enjoyed when I first read it and was later offered to review. How nice is it when it happens? #skystorians #earlymodern

Maybe one of the reasons there are so many unhinged academics is that in order to keep your job, you’re constantly required to tout yourself as a Scholar of World-Historical Significance, even as your office’s ceiling tiles slowly dislodge themselves to fall on your head.

[History OA] Tuesday afternoon—time to spotlight emerging scholars! Pamina Herrmann, MA student (@FUBerlin), explores a sensory approach to "Il Libro del Sarto: Clothing & Textiles in the Italian Renaissance." Read more: nemos.hypotheses.org/1596. #History #Renaissance #SensoryStudies #skystorians

TIL about Pietro da Rombulo, a merchant from 15th-century Sicily who traveled to Ethiopia, India & China. In 1450, Rombulo was a diplomat on a historic visit of Ethiopian ambassadors to Italy. We only know about him because humanist Pietro Ranzano interviewed him in Naples. #medievalsky #skystorians

Just heard about this excellent mentoring initiative from the Early Modern Scholars of Color Network, in partnership with The Society for Renaissance Studies - more info and sign up links here: www.emsoc.co.uk/mentorship

Fellow #skystorians, what are your favorite essays/readings to problematize periodization labels such as "Renaissance" and #earlymodern? I'm looking to revamp my suggested readings on my syllabi re: periodization

Take your dragon out for a fly. This is an #earlymodern advice (from Athanasius Kircher), on how to and when to use your private #dragon to make an impression. The image is part of Kircher's 1678 "Mundus Subterraneus" (access: www.digitale-sammlungen.de/de/view/bsb1... ), and ... 1/2

Just submitted the form for a new #earlymodern graduate course that will feature a ton of book history, forgery studies, and critical theory. Fingers crossed it gets accepted! If it is, it will be taught in Italian Studies and as a seminar within UofT's Book History & Print Culture program 🥰

I don't believe there's been one of these yet. Let me know who I'm missing/would like to be added! #medieval #earlymodern 🗃️ go.bsky.app/J7oLA9C

Your body, my choice.

Medieval in the news! Bella da Costa Greene made NPR! The role of people of color in early manuscript studies is finally beginning to be recognized and celebrated (and mourned, since Greene passed, a complicated legacy). #medievalsky #blackgirlmagic

Good morning, new followers, and welcome to bluesky! It can take some time to all rebuild our networks — drop your #EarlyModern starter packs and suggested follows in the comments here 👇🏼
