Make sure you, your trainees, and anyone else who might listen to you understands what "indirects" actually are, how they are established, and what Universities contribute. H/T @rodallab.bsky.social Please share widely! www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxTD...

Cells are filled with toxic stuff that damages healthy proteins. Is that garbage just left to rot on the curb? No way! Ubiquitin ligases have evolved to recognize chemical damage and clean it up! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

If you would like to see how much economic activity and grants and how many people are employed through NIH in your state, just use this handy website. And then contact your Congressional Rep and tell them to prioritize NIH. www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

I am confident that scientific societies will play an unusually important role in the coming years. If you are a microbiologist of any kind, please consider joining @asm.org if you haven't already. There are many ways to get involved, including advocacy. To learn more: asm.org/About-ASM/Vo...

๐Ÿšจ Registration is now open! ๐Ÿšจ Join us for 'Seeing is believing: imaging the molecular processes of life', where cutting-edge imaging methods meet groundbreaking biological discoveries. ๐ŸŒŸ#EESImaging ๐Ÿ“… 8 โ€“ 11 October 2025 ๐Ÿ“œ Submit your abstract by 2 July! ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://s.embl.org/ees25-09-bl

6 more weeks to apply ! Become our new colleague at the Cell Biology Dpt and join the growing group of junior teams of @i2bcparissaclay.bsky.social shaping the scientific environment of the institute. Apply if you are looking for a place to start a lab or forward to any potential candidates.

Please consider making a contribution to this special fund that will be used by Caltech and JPL to directly support affected individuals and their families greatly impacted by this week's devastating fires in Southern California. giving.caltech.edu/areas-to-sup...

Thinking about the cool #chemistry all those understudied bacterial species do

Just listened to a fantastic talk on harnessing evolution to do new #chemistry by @francesarnold.bsky.social at the Bowei Research Conference in Taiwan. Loved her advice: โ€œNature does not care about your calculations.โ€

Memorial Tribute to Alex Pines on January 13, 11 am EST / 5 pm CET, online, zoom information to be posted at ismar.org on January 12, please contact Rob Tycko if you would like to contribute, for more information -> listes.services.cnrs.fr/wws/arc/nmr/... posted 12/26/2024 #NMRchat ๐Ÿงฒ

Really enjoyed the opportunity to have the @kiesslinglab.bsky.social collaborate with the Imperiali Group on exploring human lectin interactions with glycans. #glycotime Some initial findings are here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Helpful time-saving advice

Happy Saturday. If you're working on your NIH specific Aims for a February submission, don't include a figure. grants.nih.gov/grants-proce....

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and EXCITING NEWS!!! We are offering two conference scholarships for 2025 to early career scientists! One for the Keystone Proximity-Based Therapeutics Conference and one to Frankfurt Conference on Quality Control in Life Processes. Application and details: forms.gle/aP4n7HTujetb...

@kiesslinglab.bsky.social is fortunate to have Gerard Porter as a member of our team @mitchemistry.bsky.social. I loved this article highlighting how the Caribbean Science Foundation is facilitating the education of talented researchers to promote innovation www.eecs.mit.edu/a-launching-...

This topic (and conclusion) is one that I have been teaching about for awhile in my organic chemistry class. The difference is that it was not within reach 10-15 years ago. This analysis is valuable for teaching. #chemsky ๐Ÿงช

Cool work from the Traverso group @mitofficial.bsky.social news.mit.edu/2024/bioinsp...

Valerie Lensch of @kiesslinglab.bsky.social and the Johnson group reviewed different glycan-based strategies for eliciting an immune response: academic.oup.com/glycob/artic... #glycotime

When I went to the @yaleuniversity.bsky.social #chembio retreat, I got this cool #glycotime shirt. I showed it to Yale alum @ssmelyansky.bsky.social. The response: โ€œThatโ€™s so cool that they used the B. subtilis glycocalyx!โ€ Wow. People in @kiesslinglab.bsky.social recognize cells via their glycans.

If you are interested or working in #structuralbiology, as you see any protein (yes, *any*), you should be thinking: is it glycosylated? The answer is likely to be yes! You can predict N-glycosylation sites and rebuild all types of glycans with ReGlyco glycoshape.org ๐Ÿ˜Œ Check out the example โฌ‡๏ธ 1/2

Looking forward to honoring David Gin tomorrow at the #chemicalbiology symposium in his honor. He was an excellent organic chemist who contributed to our understanding of #naturalproduct #vaccine adjuvants. We lost him way too soon.

Applications for the 2025 Bioorganic GRC are now live! Here is the link where you can check out the current line-up: grc.org/bioorganic-c...

I am so happy to be here. What I loved about Twitter was learning about new science and scientific insights from the people doing it. Itโ€™s great to have a place where those conversations can take place (and be found). ๐Ÿงช

And now Stanford and Arc Instituteโ€™s @lingyinli.bsky.social has arrived, let the chem bio party begin full swing! Fun facts: Lingyin is a Sarafan ChEM-H Institute Scholar and PhD alum of @laurakiessling.bsky.social

Less than 3 weeks left to nominate your candidate(s) for the Gordon Hammes Lectureship. Don't forget to nominate! www.divbiolchem.org/awards/gordo...

I was just teaching my class about induced proximity including PROTACs. What are the current views about how serious an issue resistance is for clinical applications? #chemicalbiology
