"There has been progress with specialist services, but, tragically, women are still dying." Karen Middleton, Head of Campaigns and Policy at the MMHA Catch up on this morning's BBC Breakfast feature on #MaternalMentalHealth (from 3:17:00): www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis... @laurakyrkesmith.bsky.social

After a very significant @munsecconf.bsky.social, @melanieward.bsky.social & I have written about the need to: 1) step up cooperation with Europe; 2) increase our defence capabilities; 3) build national resilience, incl. against disinformation. You can read it via @thehousemag.bsky.social here:

This morning on @thetimes.com radio I spoke about being at the Munich Security Conference, the importance of standing by Ukraine, & the urgent threats to our security which necessitate a strong response. You can listen back here (just after 9:30am): www.thetimes.com/radio/show/2...

This LBGT+ History Month, we celebrate a key chapter in UK history! In 2013, the overdue right to marriage equality was passed w/ overwhelming Labour support! There's more work to do, but we stand proudly with our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans family, friends, and neighbours across the UK.

A chilly morning but a warm reception for the @aylesburylabour.org.uk team out speaking to residents in Southcourt this morning. We picked up some important issues that people need help with & spoke about the local elections coming up in May. 🌹

In 2021, I lost one of my best friends to suicide. She left behind her 10 week old baby & two older siblings. Today in Parliament I led a debate about maternal mental health & the work we need to do get women better support. More here: www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Lots of good conversations in Kingsbrook today! Traffic, road signage & GP access top of people’s minds, & we’re on the case. Thanks to everyone who took time to speak to us. Cc @aylesburylabour.org.uk

Today in Parliament I welcomed the Chancellor's investment in the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor & in East West Rail. I raised with Treasury Minister Darren Jones the Aylesbury Spur, which would link Aylesbury to Milton Keynes by rail, & unlock further opportunity. You can watch here:

We had a very moving ceremony in Parliament this morning, hosted by the Speaker of the Commons, in advance of Holocaust Memorial Day. We remember them. And we resolve to speak up and speak out.

Very pleased to vote in support of the Deposit Return Scheme in Parliament tonight! It’s happening! Thank you to the Aylesbury Wombles for their fantastic campaigning, which was front of mind as I cast my vote. ♻️🎉 www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...

Glad to meet with Secretary of State @heidialexander.bsky.social and celebrate her great work to fix our potholes! A record £1.6 billion of funding committed, including more than £20 million for Buckinghamshire in 2025/26.

An important update from the Foreign Secretary to the House today, about the ceasefire in Gaza. I spoke about how I dare to hope this is the beginning of the end. I urged an immediate focus on humanitarian aid, getting trucks in & ultimately protecting & saving lives. Watch here:

Have your say on the NHS in Aylesbury and the villages! @laurakyrkesmith.bsky.social is running an in-person NHS Consultation surgery, but places are limited. See the details here: www.bucksherald.co.uk/news/opinion...

Thanks to Bucks Fire & Rescue for welcoming me to the station! The teams do a wonderful job of keeping the community safe. I really like their emphasis on risk assessment & prevention as much as response. We’re lucky to have an Urban Search and Rescue team based here too, with a national remit.

Following my discussion with business owners & Aylesbury Town Council last month, I raised with the Leader of the House the need to tackle anti-social behaviour & promote respectful behaviour in our town. I was pleased to hear her confirm this will be covered in the upcoming Crime & Policing Bill.

I was proud to vote for the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill in Parliament today. The political games by the Conservatives & Reform are a distraction; disrespectful and dangerous. I spoke about the Bill's important measures to protect children & support children living in poverty.

Many constituents have been in touch about the anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right & these acts of violence are unacceptable. Today I raised it again with Minister @catherinewestmp.bsky.social & I know she will keep pressing the Government of Bangladesh.

This is great news from Keir Starmer & @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social. Easier appointment bookings & access to test results, reduced waiting times & faster care. It’s a positive, necessarily ambitious plan for the NHS & it’s happening now. Read about it here: www.thetimes.com/article/f058...

A great start to the new year! We know how much people are struggling & in need of better social care. Here’s the plan to change that. Plus short-term improvements like increase to the Disabled Facilities Grant, & better data-sharing between NHS & care sectors. More here:
