I can’t recommend “Knife” by @SalmanRushdie enough. He’s a fantastic narrator telling the story of when he was attacked while on stage in upstate NY. He lost an eye as a result. This is a book of healing and transcendence. I loved it. #Audiobook #BlueSkyBooks #BookClub

The world is burning and democracy is collapsing but at least bootcut jeans are back in style. Carry on. #Cat #BlueSkyCats

All set up! Today is my first day of in-person art classes at my studio since 2019. Wish me luck! 🍀

Zora Neale Hurston’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God” published in 1937 is folklore from the Harlem Renaissance. Chock full of misogyny, questionable relationships and rabies. The narrator #RubyDee deserves an academy award for her reading. Really - listen to the #Audiobook ! #BlueSkyBooks #BookSky

“The God of The Woods” by @lizmoorebooks.bsky.social has camp stories, counselors, old money parties, family lies, a murderer w/a truth, and entire families of characters. If I rate #audiobooks by how well they go along w/painting, this is a solid 8/10. It keeps you going! #BookSky #BlueSkyBooks

Enjoy some fluff! #Cat #BlueSkyCats

Finished! Details in comments. “Magpies & Flowers” Acrylic on canvas 24” x 30” #art #FebruArty #AcrylicPainting #Birds #Maximalism

If crying through a book is your jam, read “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. This multi-generational story set against WW2 Paris, includes badass teen girls, bad SS & lots of love stories. The tree w/fabric scraps will haunt me. I need a new box of Kleenex. #Booksky #Audiobook #KristinHannah

Happy Caturday! Here’s a needy cat that likes to sit in my lap while I paint. #Caturday #Cat #StudioCat #Cute

“All The Colors of The Dark” by Chris Whitaker is an epic love story rolled into a mystery/thriller spanning 4 generations. It’s beautifully written escapism. Bonus: A painter is central to the plot. I got a lot of painting done with this book as my companion. #Audiobook #BookSky #Thriller

I finally know where I’m going with this. I think. #art #ArtSky #AcrylicPainting #WIP #OnTheEasel

A bit further along. I have to steal 15-20 minute increments to paint these days. I need to hardcore edit her back now & fix lighting perspective. Time to organize. #art #WIP #OnTheEasel #AcrylicPainting #ArtCollector #Flowers #Birds #Magpies #FebruArty

Every once in a while I crave a piece of bubblegum. Here it is “So Thirsty” by @rachelharrison.bsky.social - a fun vampire romp between two best friends. It hit the spot! (And, it got me through a tough painting day.)

#BlueSkyArtShow theme this week is Reflections. Here’s a conceptual reflection on the overuse of vanity words that are hollow when repeated without action/intention. I made this in response to 9/11 (I was in the city), and it holds true. “Never Forget” the unicorn rebellion. #Art #Acrylic #Politics

I’ve lived through 3 of these in Thailand. I know exactly what’s going on in the US. We can all use the word Coup. |kōō| The least they can do is fix the aviation part. We don’t need anymore avoidable murders. #Art #Coup #Trump #Musk #Politics #Painting #PoliticalArt #Timeless

It’ll be hideous until it’s not. This is my mantra for art and politics for the foreseeable future. #Art #WIP #Painting #AcrylicPainting #Flowers #StillLife #Birds #Magpies

Is dropping out of art to go into medicine a thing? I spent the morning at the medical center library and I may have taken the wrong path. I also think I found my TMJ in a book. Medical illustration pre-computer was the best. #art #medicalillustration #science #poisonbooks #Library

That time I almost stole an El Greco at #TheMetMuseum but it was too small to fit in my bag. This is my favorite painting. Those little ears and sad eyes call to me. I visit him every time I’m in NYC. I’ll get to see him again this year and can’t wait. What painting do you continue to visit?

Today’s #JanuArty theme is broken. This is a selfie after my parents and cat died. I’m better now. Time makes tough scars and a broken heart shatters to make more room for love. “A Year Later” Oil on panel 24” x 18” #art #OilPainting #TraditionalArt #Painting #Portrait #Grief
