Last year, Danielle Du Puis, my school system's LGBTQIA+ initiatives specialist, reached out about a teen author mentoring program she was developing with a student - a safe space for young writers who identify as being marginalized. Learn how your school can replicate Navigating the Margins.

It's banned books week. The Heartstopper graphic novels have been banned in several states. I'm a massive Heartstopper fan. I’ve been interviewing folks: When we’re writing for queer teens, what are our obligations to the audience, if any? Look for my post at SLJ’s Teen Librarian Toolbox Oct. 10.

Passover storytime in Baltimore! Bring your kids. Bring yourself. April 28, 11:15 am at Charm City Books.

In my other life, I co-host an amazing literary reading series in Howard County, Maryland, Wilde Readings. Poets and co-translators Nancy Naomi Carlson & Esperanza Hope Snyder are featuring for our National Poetry Month event, April 9 at 7 pm, Columbia Art Center.

Happy book birthday, On All Other Nights! I can't wait for everyone to get their hands on this new middle grade anthology. The stories follow the order of the Passover seder. What is my story, "Music and Matzo," about? This picture is a clue!

New Yorkers -- you're invited! Hope to see you Wednesday at Books of Wonder. We're celebrating the launch of On All Other Nights.

Tomorrow -- Thursday, March 21, join me on IG Live, 11:30 am EST. I'll be chatting with the good folks The Highlights Foundation about my upcoming poetry webinar.

Just signed up to learn from stellar poet @laurashovan.bsky.social in a 2-night #HighlightsFoundation mini course. I'm excited to dig deeper into the "poetic gutter" during poetry month! #kidlit #poetry4all www.highlightsfoundation.org/workshop/bre...

I'm delighted to be teaching for the Highlights Foundation again. How do poets and verse novelists engage readers through the use of space, gaps, and page turns? I'm leading a session on this topic. Hope to see you at this two-part webinar. www.highlightsfoundation.org/workshop/bre...

Tonight was POP (Poetry off the Page) at VCFA's winter residency. I read "Wonder Woman Gets Dressed" -- a poem published by Unfortunately lit mag. Their sub guidelines: your poem must have been rejected by another journal before sending to them! www.unfortunatelylitmag.com/2021/08/12/t...

The idea of an author newsletter stressed me out. So instead, I started sending out a mini-zine with news and doodles. LMK if you'd like some snail mail!

I’m happy to share details about my next workshop with author and poet Laura Shovan at Whale Rock Workshops. We'll be be co-teaching Feeling It: Creating Emotional Depth in Your Novel. Ideal for MG and YA novelists! More here: whalerockworkshops.corsizio.com/c/6557b57e96....

I'm working on the next issue of my author zine, which will include robot doodling instructions! (Message me if you'd like to be on my zine mailing list.) Who else loved Ed Emberley's drawing books growing up?

Just finished reading my teen mentees' pages and WOW can these kids write. 25 Howard County, MD high schoolers are part of a new writing mentorship program, Navigating the Margins, created by Danielle DuPuis and her student Ella. So excited to work with these authors, especially my 5 mentees.

Last night's dream: I'm at an event, reading from my book Welcome to Monsterville, but the poems are inspired by Queen songs. Then, out of the audience, the actor who plays Brian May in the Queen film stands. I sign a book which he sends to Brian. Concert was 5 weeks ago. Still dreaming about it.

Counting down the days to #ncte23!
