www.nature.com/articles/s41... awesome new work out today! From the Lee lab in the intramural research program at NIMH!

Couldn’t agree more. This is how the Tea Party transformed the Republican Party back in 2009: they kept confronting reps and Senators all across the country until it snowballed into a major media issue. Scientists all across the country: do this! Students, fellows, PIs, you all can do this.🧪

NIH grants peeps are working hard, on a Sunday night, trying to get our grants out to us as their world is in chaos. We owe them all a huge debt. Science peeps: be sure to send your grants personnel (grants management, POs and SROs) a note of encouragement and gratitude. @sarathomasy.bsky.social

We share a new publication: "Effects of Centrally Acting Analgesics on Resting-State Electroencephalography Biomarker Candidates of Chronic Pain." The results provide evidence against effects of centrally acting analgesics on EEG biomarker candidates of pain. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

It is accomplished www.cnn.com/2025/01/30/h...

Delighted to share our new paper, "Dynamic effects of psychiatric vulnerability, #loneliness and isolation on distress during the first year of the #COVID-19 pandemic", out today in @naturementalhealth.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44...

It's official, the Rich lab is now part of the Center for Neural Science at NYU! I'm thrilled to be joining CNS! At the same time, I'll miss my amazing colleagues at Sinai (even though we're not going far). Here's to new adventures in the new year!🥂

Three must read papers for PhD students. #scisky #PhD #science #research #academicsky 1. The importance of stupidity in scientific research Open Access journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/...

Thank you to NIH Director Dr. Bertagnolli for sharing our recent work in her latest blog post! I’m so proud of the team and first author @joezaki.bsky.social for all their hard work on these exciting new findings examining stress & memory-linking 🧠 Read here 👇 directorsblog.nih.gov/2024/12/05/s...

Our team features in two recent Nature Outlook articles on pain: 1. How pain is misunderstood and ignored in women www.nature.com/articles/d41... 2. A drug-free prescription for pain www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Estimate from @mbeisen.bsky.social that about $1.5B (3%) of the $50B NIH budget goes to publishing fees. If we are looking to cut government waste, this might be a good place to start.

Let's create an #MRI researcher starter pack! There are a couple that are neuroimaging-based, but not really the method development community. I started putting together a few profiles, but please spread the word and tell me who else to add. If there is already one, let me know! go.bsky.app/EVqd6pe

“NIH produces an astounding return on investment to the American taxpayer. In Fiscal Year 2022, NIH research funding supported 568,585 jobs and generated $96.84 billion in economic activity — that’s $2.64 of economic activity for every $1 of research funding.” www.researchamerica.org/2023-oped-us...

OK If we are moving to Bluesky I am rescuing my favourite ever twitter thread (Jan 2019). The renamed: Bluesky-sized history of neuroscience (biased by my interests)

Is it Bad to leave Twitter? No. Here are 7+ years of insights from my lab’s research that explain why. Featuring work w/ @williambrady.bsky.social @killianmcloughlin.bsky.social 🧵

A growing problem --- fake papers polluting systematic reviews. And interesting point that the gold-standard protocols that Cochrane is developing to weed out untrustworthy studies, are too much of an effort for systematic-review authors looking at 100s of papers. www.science.org/content/arti...

Big thank you to all the PhD programs that have made it so much easier to submit reference letters this year! No more infinite scales where we have to say every applicant is the best student we've ever seen or else risk them not getting into grad school.

Love to see this conversation starting! "Study design features increase replicability in brain-wide association studies" Full article led by Kaidi Kang and Simon Vandekar + awesome News+Views by @roselynechauvin.bsky.social & @ndosenbach.bsky.social! 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41... #neuroskyence

Exciting UNC Job News: We’re seeking up to four researchers for tenure-track assistant professor positions to build a new cross-disciplinary team that will advance substance use disorder (SUD) treatment from the bench to the bedside.

Social rejection sucks, but they also provide a learning signal. Here we show that the two aspects of social rejection can be dissociated using computational modeling and neuroimaging. Delighted to have been able to be part of this work, definitely one of the most fun collaborations I've had!

Joining the club! A social and affective neuroscience starter pack! go.bsky.app/MXAKEYN A very partial list. Let us know if you would like to be added.

Women are under-represented at senior levels in #academia globally, & across all #science 🧪 disciplines, as shown by these "scissor-shaped curves" ✂️ So how can we ever achieve #gender #equality? We discuss various strategies in this #Cell Commentary #WomeninSTEM www.cell.com/cell/fulltex... 🧵 1/

Huge congrats to @karyna-mi.bsky.social for her paper published today in Science! She found that the hippocampus is really important for a key strategy we use to make decisions called hidden state inference! 🧪 🧠https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adq5874 1/7

I only just figured out how to expand the list of followers and follow people back, so don’t be offended if I haven’t followed you!

Hello new followers! We have positions available in my lab for one postdoc and 2-3 postbacs to start over the next year and lead studies on pain & emotion using high field MRI. Join us! www.nccih.nih.gov/about/jobs/p...

This is the last official week to apply to join us at NIH as a staff scientist!

Attention FMRI Methods folks & those looking for a long-term non-PI position in affective neuroscience and pain: Our lab has a new Staff Scientist 1 position! Applications accepted through March. See job posting below - please spread the word! www.nccih.nih.gov/about/jobs/s...
