He unfolded it and said, "Don't you recognize your father's handwriting and his seal?" (Mart. Victor 48.16-18)

Just want to note that the Caesar salad was invented in 1924 by an Italian immigrant named Caesar Cardini at his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. Do not give this salad to an autocrat. Attribute it to amazing immigrants today. 🥗 🔪 #mundussinecaesaribus

Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere have been banned in FL, IA, and VA (probably other states too) for "sexual content." These books are not porn. But they do feature characters of color experiencing racism 🤔

Celebrate Pi Day with some fantastic charts calculating the cycles of a day, week, month, and year—and the relationship of dates/seasons to the constellations! See more in this story about the rhythms of nature, by Dr. Ani Shahinian: hmml.org/stories/series-weather-the-armenian-liturgical-calendar

This should terrify every person in this country. The use of machine learning systems to approximate an individuals views on war and then, if they are here lawfully on a visa, tag them for deportation is about as sci-fi dystopian as it gets. www.axios.com/2025/03/06/s...

Just thinking about what the US looked like before the EPA existed

This week in music: New (to me) album, "Call Me" a 1983 pressing by artist Sylvester. Known for their androgynous style, a Disco + queer icon, called the "Queen of Disco." Later = head of a drag group the Cockettes. Also, an outspoken activist during the AIDS crisis. tinyurl.com/y6ex5jah

Grateful to Amy Smith Carmen for the inspiration to get creative on my Religion midterm exam. I am so excited to read the responses!

In case you missed it earlier this week – and you want to know a little about stoners in the 13th-15th centuries – here's something I wrote:

This week in teaching: Finished up a unit on the aesthetics of Jesus (one of my favorites to teach!). Made some students uncomfortable talking about "sexy Jesus." Ended with a viewing of Gibson's Passion of the Christ (students voted). Cool discussions about affect and film afterward!

Etymology of the day: ‘book’ comes from an ancient root shared by ‘beech’, a wood that people used for engraving inscriptions. ‘Paper’ comes from ‘papyrus’, and ‘volume’ is from the Latin for a ‘roll’ of parchment. Happy World Book Day.

This very good dog is helping me think through some thorny article revisions. Grateful for this creature and a sunny space to write this morning.

This week in teaching: Pairing Priscilla McCutcheon's work on Fannie Lou Hamer with Y. Blair-Lavallais' recent book on food hustle/insecurity in Texas. Asking students what food justice should look like now/future and what the role of intentional community might be. It feels good to dream together.

I made a list of worship/ritual sites for my intro religious studies class @ Spelman. I learned greater ATL has the largest Hindu temple outside India, a Tibetan monastery, historic Jewish synagogues, Jain society, huge mosque & much more! Check out my map + lmk what I missed! tinyurl.com/4hrwdajz
