I have friends everywhere. newrepublic.com/article/1967... cc: @gamsilroy.bsky.social

Lol (not at @gelliottmorris.com btw). The one specific item of the abundance agenda polled that definitely would lower housing costs & increase housing supply is the one thing that is underwater. (from www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trump-appr...).

We have a sign beside one of our windows after walnuts started showing up in places where there should not be walnuts

This is insane. Republicans have lost their damn minds.

Trump suggests that the fact it didn’t rain on his military parade is a refutation of climate change

"In a new partnership, the Transportation Security Administration is offering 100 Federal Air Marshals to the agency. The vast majority of those employees volunteered for the assignment." www.govexec.com/management/2...

Can you imagine spend a whole day interviewing privileged jerks who are mad we don’t want to pre forgive people who flare kidnapping people and making them disappear Imagine saying this is a distraction while your constituents and NEIGHBORS march by the millions against this

This is a very good conversation about the state of healthcare here in the US, about the nature of medicine, art, and the potential impact of AI on both, and about disinformation in the current ideological context. Really worth the 53 minutes, esp if you also love The Pitt!

Very good thread. Well worth your time.

"The road to repairing sharks’ reputations [post-Jaws] has been long and full of obstacles, and in many ways, it’s a blueprint for how we might reframe other misunderstood or maligned species."

Hell yeah

NYT telling people to not rank their preferences is bullshit and a complete misrepresentation of how rank choice voting works

Brighten your day. Historian rediscovers a pre-Incan method of water storage, gets money to restore the existing structures, and the town he grew up in now has access to water 10 hours a day, up from 1/2 hour per day. The details are v. cool. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

“You’re not bad. You’re a tiny, furious poet in a body that’s still learning how to carry all that thunder. That’s brave work. That’s art. That’s enough.”

Breathe in like the world owes you money. Breathe out like you’re never getting it back. Do this five times before setting anything on fire.

Hello friends. It is June 16, 2025. The siege of Gaza continues, comfortably shoved away behind the histrionics of a more exciting war with Iran. This is what my friends in Palestine are enduring today. We can still help them. conversationalist.org/2025/05/29/g...

The value of $1,000 has become as if it were $50 in Gaza. I will tell you how. First, you want to get cash or banknotes. You want to pay a 45% commission. What you have is now $550. The price of every commodity, if available, has multiplied tenfold or more. Thus, money has lost a lot of its value.

Rahm fucking Emanuel, beacon of successful big-city governance

There is no reason to be concerned about the birthrate other than racism. Humanity as a whole is above replacement levels, and we could stand to reduce the population. Age cohort problems could easily be solved through liberalized immigration. This is literally the stupidest thing to care about.

The hegemonic narrative among institutional leaders is the post-Obama Democratic Party grew too “woke” due to police protests culminating with the nomination of Kamala Harris (a lifelong prosecutor) and the biggest mistake the party made was being too sensitive towards the concerns of …“the groups”

Climate models include a lot of feedbacks, like warming ➡️ permafrost melting ➡️ methane to atmosphere ➡️ more warming, but I wonder how many include feedback from climate-fueled instability making war more likely, causing more emissions from military operations. Grim stuff.

can’t imagine why

You know you’re in for a treat when they start off praising Rahm Emanuel

You almost have to appreciate just how beautifully this illustrates the gerontocratic nature of American politics: the Ancient Umbrella is imbued with more experience simply because it existed longer.

Again I stand by what I said. "I can't believe I even have to talk about these people. That's how ridiculous it s." www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult...

New piece by me! I wrote about how freaky measles is, which many people don't know about. It depletes immune cells, and makes people vulnerable to many other infectious diseases. This raises the risk of complications for years after an infection.

Back in October I interviewed Mazen, a resident of Dahiyeh who lost his cat, Cici, when his building was bombed by Israel. He searched frantically for Cici. I followed up with him today for the first time since then. I have no way to verify this but, he told me: www.aljazeera.com/features/lon...

To demand both absolute power and absolute impunity is the demand of a tyrant. New from me in the NYT, on the Trump administration’s attempt to zero out noncitizens’ rights, and how that inevitably implicates citizens as well. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/o...

I keep saying that this Miller keeps giving his own versions of Himmler's Posen speeches, and this is just more evidence of that

UNREPENTANT

Yo, check the map. Many important places would be up for sale, including Mono Hot Springs, Jackass Meadow, etc, etc. “The bill fails to give sovereign Tribal Nations the right of first refusal to bid on lands, even for areas that are a part of their traditional homelands or contain sacred sites.”

Of all the travesties on this map, the sale of the Red Hills Area of Environmental Concern would be devastating. It’s home to amazing serpentine soils and geology, as well as a ton of endemic species that are super rare. @geotripper.bsky.social says it best: geotripper.blogspot.com/2022/04/red-...

This. This. This THIS. I want it in every color and size you got and I want it on every block.

See which of YOUR public lands congress wants to sell off to the rich www.wilderness.org/articles/med...

I'm trying to imagine a Democratic president saying openly and proudly that he would be sending federal agents to target the 'Republican Power Center' in Texas, Florida, and Tennessee. We would be in the midst of a civil war before he'd finished saying those words.

Here’s the thing I’m not totally sure we aren’t in the midst of a civil war

Powerful sign from a #NoKings protest in Washington state. Vaccines save lives!

An examination of the consequences of abortion restrictions. A study to test a protocol to prevent HIV transmission. An investigation into why LGBTQ+ adults are dying by suicide. This is the scientific research being lost as Trump cuts NIH funding.

I thought I was losing my mind when this happened because it was an attempted assassination of a national political leader and it was treated like it was nothing.

going forward whenever I feel down I will simply rewatch the various incidents of grandmothers and gym teachers chasing away terrified Patriot Front types from public places all across America yesterday

Somewhere, over the rainbow, there are some incredible multicoloured animals you might not even be aware of - and we hate to say it, but they’re feeling a little left out. 💔 It’s time to show these rainbow recluses some love. 🌈 Let us introduce you to…
