Climate change is likely to exacerbate determinants which drive TB, the world’s leading infectious disease killer. Commissioned by WHO, we developed an analytical framework outlining potential causal relationships between climate change and TB: medrxiv.org/cgi/content/... @lshtm.bsky.social @who.int

PhD opportunity @lshtm-tbmod.bsky.social modelling intersection of TB (world #1 infectious killer) & climate change. Do apply to be part of a great group doing impactful work! www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/fees-a... @lshtm.bsky.social @cmmid-lshtm.bsky.social @reinhouben.bsky.social @laragosce.bsky.social

Come do a PhD with @lshtm-tbmod.bsky.social! We have 3 TB Modelling projects, applications due 11 March: ➡️Influenza and risk of TB ➡️Climate change on TB in migrant & displaced populations ➡️Housing & infections among the homeless More info here: www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/fees-a...

A bright light in a dark moment: The price of the critical TB drug bedaquiline has now dropped to $90 per adult treatment course for TB, a 54% reduction since just 2023. This is a huge win for @tbfighters.org and the TB activism community generally. www.stoptb.org/what-we-do/f... (1/2)...

Hot off the press! 🔥 Our new systematic review digs deep into #TB cluster randomised trials, exploring how contamination can influence results, and offers insights for improving trial design #TBSky #IDSky #MedSky doi-org.ez.lshtm.ac.uk/10.5588/ijtl...

11 PhD studentships now available in Health Analytics, Epidemic Modelling and Health Economics, jointly between LSHTM, Imperial and UKHSA, to start autumn 2025. Deadline 7 March: www.lshtm.ac.uk/study/fees-a...

Reducing #TB burden requires understanding local contexts. Our new preprint emphasizes the importance of considering social contact patterns for interventions like active case finding, infection prevention & control, & cluster trial design #TBsky #IDsky #GlobalHealth www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

New modelling study from colleagues @lshtm-tbmod.bsky.social shows HUGE potential for new TB vaccines to reduce TB cases in people with #HIV. Vaccination regardless of HIV status could avert up to 1 MILLION cases in South Africa by 2050 #TBSky #EndTB

Celebrating the brilliant Karen Wynn Fonstad, a cartographic genius & an inspiration to women in #geography! I recently learned she was the artist behind the "Atlas of Middle-earth," which brought #Tolkien 's world to life with stunning detail. web.archive.org/web/20250114... #Cartography #GeoSky

Nutritional care for TB-affected households is likely to be highly cost-effective & could avert a substantial amount of disease and death in India – our paper out now in Lancet Global Health @raclark18.bsky.social @reinhouben.bsky.social @lshtm-tbmod.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

When I was a kid, around 1,800,000 people died every year of tuberculosis. Now, around 1,250,000 do. That's important progress. But at this current rate, it'll take a CENTURY to push TB deaths much below 500,000 per year. That's totally unacceptable for a curable, preventable disease.

New preprint from @aschwalbc.bsky.social + team shows that population-wide #TB screening in Viet Nam could dramatically reduce TB prevalence & deaths. A cost-effective 2-step strategy with chest X-rays & tests could save millions in the long run. #EndTB #PublicHealth #TBSky

Our ASCENT modelling paper on Digital Adherence Technologies (DAT) for TB treatment is now out in BMJ Global Health gh.bmj.com/content/9/12... DATs may have limited epidemiological impact but can reduce costs and have important budgetary implications. @cfmcquaid.bsky.social @lshtm-tbmod.bsky.social

Drug-resistant tuberculosis: a persistent global health concern www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Anyone else counting down the days until @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social's new book? I'm hoping it will spark a global conversation and inspire action to combat this preventable, yet deadly, disease #TB #TBSky

The LSHTM #TB Modelling Group is offering 3 #PhD studentships through the MRC LID scheme. Exciting projects, world-class mentorship. Apply now! Details in thread🧵 mrc-lid.lshtm.ac.uk @lshtm.bsky.social #TBSky

Hey #TBSky! Today is International Men's Day, and I've seen a few posts about mental health, cancers, and healthy masculinities - but nothing about tuberculosis. Did you know #TB disproportionately affects men in every region of the world? More below ⬇️

🔔 New #TB preprint from @aschwalbc.bsky.social & team. With viable Mtb infections far outpacing previous LTBI estimates, the quest for new diagnostic tools is urgently needed #endTB #TBsky

Evaluating the impact of #TB interventions is important. Our poster for #UnionConf2024 explores the effect of contamination in cluster randomised trials and potential solutions. Full paper coming out soon in #IJTLD!

Major international conferences like #TB #UnionConf2024 can be overwhelming, especially for #neurodiverse folks. The batik artists' work in the #CommunityConnect space was a beautiful and grounding reminder of the intersection between #art and #science

Honored to have presented my recent work on social contact and mobility patterns at #UnionConf2024. Where people go and who they interact with has implications for different #TB interventions

Reflecting on this year’s #TB #UnionConf2024 and am so inspired by the brilliant minds and groundbreaking research being done to combat this global health threat. Special shoutout to the TB Modelling Group @lshtm.bsky.social 🫁
