I'm reading The Vile Village by Lemony Snicket and it may be a mistake. A counsel of old folks forcing kids to work endlessly. Arresting folks with no evidence. An obvious shyster taking advantage of a draconian legal system. People who have power to help being intimidated out of speaking up.
