The best gift God can give us in our troubled times. www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/ray-or...

This is too true. Many of you reading this may have been through suffering and prepared the hard way, but the nanny state is very much real. We certainly don't need to methodically traumatize people, but there is a need for more discipline and consequences in raising our youth. Grit is missing.

“When you sing ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ or ‘Amazing Grace,’ for that three minutes, you are united in heart,” Dwan Hill told CT. “And, man, if there’s something our world needs, it’s setting aside the things that divide and picking up the things that unite.”

“If we follow in Jesus’ steps—if we live slowly, do good things however inefficiently, and share the extravagant grace we’ve been given—the temptations of AI, like all false promises, will grow dim and unconvincing.”

“Anyone entering academia, if they are to make a difference in the world beyond advancing their own reputation, will need to discern the difference between acquiring knowledge for its own sake and growing in wisdom.” —Elizabeth Hoare

“God invites us to actively pursue harmony with one another, encouraging us to engage with those we might prefer to avoid, gently confronting biases and seeking reconciliation where division has taken root.”

Happy St Valentine's Day everyone! Make sure to fight the good fight of faith as you commemorate the feast of this martyr with roses, chocolates and fancy meals. 📕

In a world that trivializes us, a world of merciless online slanders, a world that might smirk when we die, how differently God feels! “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head” (Psalm 3:3). He values us. Let His heart settle the question of our worth!

It's been a weird few weeks. I've been struggling to make time to intentionally connect with the Lord. Hoping the coming weeks bring some reprieve from audits and assignments. The one nice thing about deadlines is that they too shall pass.

What can we learn from the Hebrew midwives of Exodus who defied a tyrant to protect the vulnerable?

This is hard to see. If you want to pull money out of the war, fine, but please keep helping the victims and bystanders!

What can we learn about intentional living from the modern monastic movement?

“What might it look like for you to trade in worldly wellness for a deeper—if more demanding—spiritual peace in union with Christ?” chrst.today/3CvSV6E

“We’re in a golden age of Bible publishing,” says Bible design blogger J. Mark Bertrand. “It’s never been as good as it is.”

There is so much cruelty in the world. As Christians, let's not add to it. Our methods matter. Even when we are opposing evil, snark and pushiness and humiliating others are not the way. We advance Christ's work with patience, persuasion, wholesomeness, and love.

“Locking ourselves into a market-oriented society has left us with a shriveled conception of value and a blindness to the many forms of noneconomic value that are needed for a thriving world.” —Jesse Zink

Today on the feast day of St Chrysostom let us remember that when two or three are gathered in Christ's name, He will be there. And gee, there's an awful lot of you gathered and reading this, so that's at least a couple. Thank you, Jesus, for being present in our midst. 📕

"You can have dead mentors” changed how I read books. They were no longer textbooks, they were formative friends who were pointing me to go deeper in my relationship with Christ, cheering me on in my studies, and inviting me to journey with them on their adventures in knowing Jesus more."

Thank you, Lord, for raising up wise leaders like John Chrysostom into your service. 📕

I'm enjoying (most) of my readings for class, but I'm frustrated at the shift from paper to PDF for these reading packets. I get that it's better for the environment, but it's becomes much more difficult to highlight and take notes in the margins.

Dear Lord, as with the thorn in St Paul's side, only you know which infirmities should be healed or used to show your perfection in our weakness. Bless us and protect us, as meets your will, so that we can show forth your praise. 📕
