You're probably a better GM than you think you are. Like if you've managed to maintain a campaign or group for more than a few months, you're crushing it. Campaigns don't last with bad GMs. People don't spend hours with games they're not enjoying for the most part.

A little tip for DMs needing maps for their games: check patreon. There's a ton of amazing artists on there and a lot of them offer free maps. Of course if you're in a position to, it's always nice to support their work by grabbing a membership.

There's mixed emotions when the player's don't follow a sprinkle of plot/lore bait in a horror campaign. On one hand, I wanted them to discover what was waiting for them, but on the other, it's great to know the atmosphere has them scared enough to not dare follow.

Here's a tip for making running puzzles in your DnD games easier: Don't worry about coming up with a solution! Throw out some clues, a few pieces your players can interact with, and see where their minds take them. You just have to let them connect the dots and come up with the answer for you!

A big chunk of my prep for a horror-themed adventure like Strahd is finding the right audio (music, ambience, SFX) to set the mood and build tension. I find music is best used sparingly and for suitably dramatic moments. Most of the time, a soft ambience is enough to keep the players on edge.
