Excited to share our first major result from our IARPA Entangled Logical Qubits team! arxiv.org/abs/2504.07258 @benbrown.bsky.social @universal-soup.bsky.social @evanhockings.bsky.social @georgianixon.bsky.social

I am again calling for the next generation of leadership to be steely-eyed puritans who hate corruption in every form.

To me, this is the easiest layup for DC Democrats. Go to the IRS, chain yourselves there and raise the alarm about this so that USians understand what they are doing.

One thing the Democrats can do (and don't seem to be doing) is coordinate on/publish a 'here is what we we will do to reverse Trump' set of proposed measures. Republicans made it clear that they would overturn JCPOA, damaging its credibility from outset. Dems should do same for the shitty stuff.

Labour's betrayal of trans people - fueled by a wider reactionary movement taking a grip on older people in the UK even on the left - is one of the most disgusting things I've seen in politics from a party that *should* be better.

hello, world! The Rust Foundation is excited to join you on this new (to us!) platform. We plan to exclusively share social media content here, Mastodon, & LinkedIn for the foreseeable future. You can also follow @rustconf.com — they'll have lots of important news to share about #rustconf soon 🦀

if you have ever worked in or adjacent to payments every news story about doge in treasury is basically the preamble to the Demon Core accident of finance

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

cannot comprehend the hubris to agree to a Chotiner interview. Just gazing at his heap of skulls saying “rip to them but im different”. Lol.

As a parliamentary systems enjoyer, I am just going to quietly point out that Truss had been ousted by now.

Wrote up something about Techdirt's recent coverage, and why (whether we like it or not) we need to be a "democracy blog" now, rather than just a "tech" blog (not that we've ever been just a tech blog). This story is *the* story and it impacts everything else. www.techdirt.com/2025/03/04/w...

1) The NYT should never have done this glib "everything is like SEC rankings" feature. Someone should have said, WTF?? 2) The NYT should not have axed its public editor. The strong people in that role would have asked WTF? 3) You definitely should read @clarajeffery.bsky.social whole strong thread

*sigh* time to break this one out again, huh

what we are seeing now is a failure resulting from literally decades of failure to fix or modernize the system but instead propping it up and patching it - partially because the US has been so absurdly wealthy that it was able to wave away problems others had to solve

The fact that the USA has banned visas for trans people but welcomed rapist Andrew Tate shows how all this "defending women" stuff is total bullshit

Really good piece. Other Democrats in power need to look at what AOC is doing right now and follow her example. One of the worst and most frightening aspects of this moment is seeing how many Dems in leadership roles seem resigned to defeat.

I’d bet a lot that the Trump administration abandoning US partners in Europe to Russian menacing does not, in fact, result in stronger US efforts to support South Korea, Taiwan, and other Asia-Pacific US partners against Chinese menacing.

Again, Trump fired SBA Inspector General Mike Ware after he found $200 billion in fraud in Trump's COVID programs and returned $40B to the US Treasury. Instead, Trump brought in a bunch of fascist boys who know nothing about accounting. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Patricia Hewitt & Philip Gould's 1993 discussion in @renewaljournal.bsky.social of the difference between the US & UK media environments ... genuinely astounding to read today, and a striking reminder of just how different the pre-Fox News era was

Washington Post refuses to run $115,000 ad titled ‘Fire Elon Musk’

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

From Oliver Darcy, @oliverdarcy.bsky.social February 05, 2025. www.status.news/p/trumpocaly...

i think that Musk's primary vulnerability is that....well....."it is not the fault of the king, it is actually his nefarious advisors" is a time-honored way of deflecting blame

I would suggest blaming the people who actually voted for Trump or withheld their vote from Harris, whatever their race or religion, while not blaming the people who did not vote for Trump, even if they share a racial identity with people who did.

I may just lose my mind if I read one more MSM story where the legality/illegality of certain actions -- eg deporting US citizens to foreign prisons -- is just lazily waved around like it's some goddamned unanswerable question. www.wsj.com/world/americ...

I would really love to see the NYT & WaPo treat the current political situation with even half the level of alarm they used last year in reporting that Biden was old

Draw your own conclusions, but Donald Trump is not behaving like a leader who expects democratic accountability for himself or his party next year or in 2028.

A constitutional crisis requires friction to make it legible. That often comes from conflict between the branches of government, but a Republican-controlled Congress and SCOTUS are not interested in challenging Trump’s lawlessness. That why it’s *especially* important for Democrats to act.

This Hannah Arendt quote feels appropriate right now "Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty."

a critical thing here is that wapo/nyt subscription numbers are down *because people see them as Vichy media*

Rescinding money that Congress authorized is unconstitutional. Telling kids that they need to go work in the factory after school so they can pay for lunch is immoral. Saying all this just to get in Trump's good graces is sycophantic. Offensive on every level.
