In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

“And much like in certain primate hierarchies, those who make it to the top aren’t necessarily the smartest or most competent — just the best at making noise and convincing everyone else that they belong there. And far too often, we believe they do.” open.substack.com/pub/thenoosp...

The word(s) of the week: Malicious Compliance. Malicious compliance is the act of following a superior's orders to the letter, even if the outcome is negative or unintended. In the workplace, it can be seen as an act of rebellion, where an employee uses the company's own rules against them.

I really, really, really hope this was intended to troll Trump.

Being disabled on Social Security right now is like being a federal employee waiting to be fired. Only without the possibility of finding another job.

I guess we need to fight, friends. Call your reps!!!

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed EO 9066 on February 19, 1942. Executive Orders can have extremely serious and adverse consequences. This EO lead to the incarceration of over 120,000 innocent Japanese Americans. Japanese men, women and children were extricated from their homes and forced…

My "survivalist" neighbor would cry if he had to eat wheat porridge, and I don't think he's physically up for threshing it

That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary. There wasn't even any rioting in the streets. People stayed home at night, watching television, looking for some direction. There wasn't even an enemy you could put your finger on. Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale

Notable that most media that’s independent, Black-led, worker-led etc doesn’t have paywalls.

This is where we are now: An elementary school at Fort Campbell has removed all books from its library that so much as *allude* to slavery or the civil rights movement. The wholesale erasure of history in real time.

one of the reasons i wrote this piece is to get away from the gauzy mythology of the civil rights movement "spontaneous mass resistance" "rosa parks was just tired". no. the movement remains a masterclass in the tactics--and the *strategy*--of resistance.

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences. AKA That Time Kat Started An Antifascist Hallway Riot In The Third Grade. Grab your beverage of choice.

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

It is important to celebrate the wins when we get them.🥳 President Donald Trump’s administration halted defunding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, after Democracy Forward, on behalf of the city of Baltimore and a nonprofit, filed a lawsuit. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”
