This is EXCELLENT advice!

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

This is quite excellent. Well worth the scrolling

Excellent thread on the dire wolf shenanigans

Time to throw up a bat signal for a specific skillset for @skypeascientist.bsky.social We have a classroom that is looking for a scientist who can do a session with them in ASL. Do we know any scientists who would be willing to do a Q&A with a deaf classroom in ASL?

In today’s mandatory training: “Thank you for taking the time to attend today’s training. It’s a mandatory training but thank you for taking the time from your busy schedules for this required training.”

if you want to bring back the prosperity* and security of mid-century american life then you need high rates of unionization, a generous social insurance state, and widespread, freely available education. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Found a small slithery friend while mowing the grass today.

I keep seeing the same questions asked in marine biology career advice groups. So along with some colleagues, I'm trying to compile a bunch of common questions and answer them all at once. Please share widely with anyone who might have questions! Submit ?s here: forms.gle/LEd4egJgvfGf... 🦑🧪🌎🐟

Booker: <acknowledges democrats haven’t shown up since Jan and need to look in the mirror> Other democrats: <studiously ignore mirror> This wasn’t even a difficult act of resistance! It’s not like y'all had to talk for another 25 hours!

I could read quotes from @booker.senate.gov’s speech (seems an underwhelming descriptor) all damn day. Literally, but also it was so good!

Senator Booker has been speaking for over 24 hours. Every time I’ve had the privilege of tuning in, he’s making excellent, well thought out points. After speaking for over 24 hours straight. Many of his Republican colleagues can’t do that when speaking for 24 seconds straight #MoralMoment

Just so everybody understands, Booker has been speaking cogently about the issues the entire time and Strom Thurmond famously spent hours reading from the encyclopedia, because segregationists were and are dumbshits

I understand that there are fires rapidly approaching a lot of us right now, & we’re all limited on attention span but fuck. The deep sea is as precious an ecosystem as the national parks, but we understand them much less. Mining them is as ruinous as mining a national park. I’m sick about this.

Good god yes

The first real beach day of the year is always my favorite one. Glad at least one of the kiddos still appreciates it!

I wish there was a genre of fiction popular with these weirdos that could have warned of the inevitability of this central theme!

Awesome training day on how to safely handle sea turtles behind the scenes at the NC Aquarium. I generally love my job, but some days that love comes easier than others! 1/2

Left my office to pick up the kids from school and the sun was breaking through. Got to the car rider line and not so much! Guarantee that despite me reminding them it was going to rain today, neither wore a coat

Unfortunately, those 2% are all Democratic Senators.

I’d vote @ologies.bsky.social best pod overall. But easily the best science pod

The northern puffer side eye game isn’t quite porcupine puffer level, but still some excellent side eye

Had the honor of speaking at today’s @standupforscience.bsky.social rally in Philly. I spoke about the importance of breaking the right rules and harnessing chaos for the greater good.

These executive orders aren’t going to stop conservation work. Let’s pay attention to the amazing work currently being done! I visited the Fresno-Chaffee Zoo where they’ve established a successful breeding program of the endangered blunt-nosed leopard lizard.
