Weird how familiar this sounds.

This is something that really unites both liberals and leftists here because while we all have concerns about *who*, exactly, should be let in the tent, I don't think anyone thinks the Silicon Valley eugenics types belong.

The funny thing about One Billion Americans is that by its own admission the book's policy recommendations would rapidly eliminate the white majority, but its author likes to buddy around with people who would consider that the end of the country

The great irony here is that Trump II has basically proved wokeism correct (e.g. “making off-color racist jokes is a dogwhistle to bring racism to power.”). It just seems quaint now bc the racists were so successful they don’t dog whistle anymore

The anti-trans movement: I don’t want men harassing cisgender women in restrooms Also anti-trans movement: Officer, please send a man into that restroom to harass cisgender women! www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/...

after this last few months I think I am now in critical support of all weird ultrarich people hobbies. take that horse dancing class. I love that yoga retreat for you. tighten up that golf swing. search the ocean floor for ancient shipwrecks. anything that keeps you in your business and out of ours

1986 ass headline

This is what I mean when I say transphobes don't oppose "males" in "women's spaces"--they oppose trans women specifically and hope that disgust of us will help police how all women look and behave

It’s pretty funny that (a) this complaint about “bringing politics into” the previously cloistered and Olympian groves of academe — always framed as a very recent development — has been made in op eds continuously for over 50 years…

Warnock: Georgia officials said they were sorry but their hands were tied, you can’t vote the first weekend of the runoff after the holiday so I decided to untie them, I sued them. And I won… They appealed asking for emergency relief. Emergency relief from what? People voting?

More firings at the National Cancer Institute, including the Cancer Information Service, “which provides answers to doctors and patients about cancer, and updates to databases summarizing cancer information for healthcare providers”. I mean who needs it, right? www.cbsnews.com/news/nih-lay...

the story all but says it but hegseth is very clearly trying to purge the leadership of the military of black people and women

Scanlon: The Gulf of Mexico was so named over 500 years ago. If we want to update that name to reflect our current culture, maybe we should call it the Sea of Emoluments—you know, the place where we can board the Ship of Fools and navigate from a State of Ignorance to the Confederacy of Dunces…

"It is often the privileged, the safest people on earth, who are least capable of courage. They fear, as Brecht put it, that 'to displease the possessors means to become one of the dispossessed'...Solidarity is always a risk, but the alternative is suffering alone."

so the Signal clone that Michael Waltz used was made by an Israeli company and some hacker found it trivially easy to own. in fuckin credible www.404media.co/the-signal-c...

woo woo cranks get a lot of mileage out of railing against Big Pharma corruption (which very much does exist), but every last one of them are an order of magnitude worse grifters

The antagonizing of allies, tariffs on foreign products, and ending immigration make sense when you realize that Trump is an abuser isolating us from the rest of the world. Abusers typically isolate their victims from friends, family, and the outside world. It's this on a societal scale.

This seems to be the correct answer. The dads idolize men like Trump and the sons follow their dads. We are looking for a “crisis” among young men but i think its actually middle aged men who have gone insane because many of us never really grew up bsky.app/profile/maxk...

Thinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.

Not to take away from this point about masculinity as a product of historical conditions, but I think this speaks to an anxiety at the heart of male supremacy & white supremacy, both: the dominating, supremacist position is always anxious because it has to be continually maintained and proved.

Well in fairness the evidence suggests he certainly doesn’t teach Supporting Your View With Relevant and Persuasive Examples.

Proof this guy is full of SITH.

I hope everyone working on LLMs has reckoned with their role in building a technology that, so far, has offered little to no benefit to humanity — while causing real harm by degrading art, undermining labor in creative industries, and straight up automating political propaganda

Yeah I do think the “teenage boy” in these discussions is a pretty transparent stand in for the anxieties of adults.

Like this framing a lot! I think we are doing for young men what we did for rural voters. "They have material concerns, how could they not be pieces of shit" is stupid, and also works for every possible negative idea

it turns out that, contra the Falwells of the world, God is a trans ally and is punishing TERF Island accordingly

so this is that horse-race journalism we’ve heard so much about

The cops are defunding every major city.

An actual Enemies List of journalists and academics is circulating around the State Department. It appears to target, in part, anybody said a bad word about Alex Jones or Glenn Greenwald.

The only boys being told to stop being boys are trans boys and trans boys are not the boys being radicalized into fascism

Ironically, this is Big Pharma's wet dream. Rather than a preventative vaccine that costs a few dollars a dose twice a lifetime, they can sell expensive new in-patent drugs for hundreds a dose that you need to keep taking.

Carry on using the right toilets. Labour's cruelty is stupid, uneforceable and unlawful. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The glove puppet has changed but the hand remains the same.

Labour’s “Farage is right, don’t vote for him” strategy, which was so successful on Thursday, looks set to continue.

"By creating approved versions of Jews and women, the regime can play at being sympathetic to liberal values in a way that will confuse and divide at least some of the people who would otherwise oppose them...Sometimes, they’re even enthusiastic about Trump empowering them to say 'good riddance.'"

Imagine if the NYT covered trans healthcare this way

It is deeply weird that only after a sustained years-long campaign to deprive trans people of every right enjoyed by cis people did the Guardian ask someone from a womens' refuge if they had ever had problems resulting from trans women using their services & got the reply 'Never, in fifteen years"

“There’s nothing illegal about it and if they want to make it illegal, they can come take me.” This is the energy I am trying to encourage people to cultivate instead of “they’ll arrest you next.”

seems kind of weird that the vice president of the united states is openly supportive of german neo-nazis!

“Five former National Weather Service directors have taken the unusual step of signing onto an open letter warning that cuts to the organization by the Trump administration may soon endanger lives.” Gift link: nyti.ms/3YrIw3Q
