Little Tobey Maguire sneaks off to play the Atari Lynx in the bathroom. He has somehow concealed the massive fucking console in a comically large inner-pocket of his jacket. The batteries keep dying while the scene is filmed. It has to be plugged into the wall, creating a continuity error.

this is the uA702, the first commercial analog chip (an op-amp). it was designed by the legendary Bob Widlar and went on the market in 1964 for $300 each. that's $2500 adjusting for inflation!

Intel's Pentium processor (1993) can compute sines, logarithms, and other special functions. To do this, it has a ROM with 304 floating-point constants. I reverse-engineered this ROM and extracted the constants. You can see pi in the ROM, binary 11.001001..., encoded in the transistor pattern. 1/n

Did you know that Silicon is transparent to IR at wavelengths above ~1100nm? Here I have 5 IR LEDs beneath and above a silicon die. First you’re seeing the visible light which I then turn off so you can see the IR shining through with a camera that has no IR filter.

Intel launched the Pentium processor in 1993. Unfortunately, dividing sometimes gave a slightly wrong answer, the famous FDIV bug. Replacing the faulty chips cost Intel $475 million. I reverse-engineered the circuitry and can explain the bug. 1/9
