This is a gut-wrenching, beautifully written essay. A doctor must watch helplessly as children die because USAID's freeze on aid has limited access to nutritional supplements. time.com/7258248/us-f...

“People will die, but we will never know, because even the programs to count the dead are cut.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/h...

History: “Eventually the incompetent fascists invariably lose power and then society recovers in a new and stronger way” Me: “Oh, cool, so what has to happen for the spell to be broken??” History: “mmmm…well, that part is less encouraging.”

I didn't write a #haikusaturday haiku. But this poem found me in a box of words and self-portrait practice.

Dunham Literary is CLOSED for *unsolicited* queries. Do you have a referral, a conference code, or a pitch contest like or heart? Those are solicited queries, and you can still send one. Everyone else please wait until we open again! Watch social media for when we'll open again.

What’s the best teacher move you made this week? Instead of grading the literary analyses my students submitted, I printed them out, cancelled my lecture for the day, and hosted mini writing conferences with each of them. They gave one week to submit a revised essay. #EduSky

I currently sell Punk Taco books independently through Amazon Advantage. I signed up for this membership years ago because libraries and librarians wouldn't order directly from an indie publisher. But I have decided to cut ties with Amazon as long as they support this maga movement.

Like the movie? Read the book. Such a great way to get kids excited to read - and the perfect message for us all. Thank you @kwamembalia.bsky.social @4nikkolas.bsky.social #Teachingwithcomics

Every day at the library. But also— we should be doing more of this. 👇

GA folks, please call or email your state senator before Monday. SB 74 is going up for a vote. If it passes, protections for library workers being targeted for distributing "obscene" materials will be stripped away.

Hello Bluesky! I wrote a story for a graphic novel proposal last year that I really love. However, I got feedback on it that it needs to be expanded and more depth added to the characters and world. I've done about all I can for it so I'm looking to hire someone to help me make it better.

Talking them up and checking them out of your local library also helps!

Since I’m new here, I’ll do a #MSWL update soon, but if you’re a querying author, please note that short of some unforeseen circumstance I’m open to queries year-round! I’m looking for adult, YA, and MG projects.

Definitely felt the library shake on that west Texas earthquake south of Lamesa. Lots of fun things happening out west these days 🫣

Excited to announce that I have a new batch of colorful handmade notebooks in my Etsy shop! Each hand-stitched journal features an original marbled paper cover. Check the link in my bio to see the new collection! 📒 #papercrafts #bookbinding #etsy #handmade #notebooks #writingcommunity #portland

Remember that book you bought because the cover spoke to you, that you just put on the shelf and forgot? The one you got as a gift? The other book the bookseller recommended to you that were going to read next? A day where you're trying not to buy anything is a GREAT day to start that book.

Hear ye, hear ye! I have just posted 27 auctions for rare and out of print anime and manga in an attempt to raise money for the Manga Library. Happy bidding! www.ebay.com/usr/mangalib...

Congratulations to Frugal Bookstore in Boston for being named one of the country's "Best, Most Community-Oriented Black-owned Bookstores" www.afar.com/magazine/bla... #booksky #BlackHistoryMonth

I managed to Do The Task earlier today and then I thought maybe I would have MORE brain and do MORE tasks, but, haha. Absolute paralysis. I have retreated into giant picross puzzles and listening to mst3k-guys talking about awful books

feel free to use the library today

would just like to brag that i squeezed a good 30 minutes of writing time in there between my reposting and anxiety over our "democracy"

Wanted to repost my box opening for VERSUS Volume 2: My Mummy vs Your Ghost. It was a real battle! You can preorder the 2nd volume at your local book store (absolutely a cool move) or grab one here! www.amazon.com/Mummy-Vs-You...

People upset about the Shrek “redesign,”…may I introduce you to the source material, a wonderful picture book by the legendary William Steig. #shrek #kidlit

I need to prepare a whole new banned book talk. The talk I give is about how banning books about people you don't want to have a voice in society leads to fascist dehumanization of those people across society. That's exactly what happened. My talk about history is sadly now about the present

Admittedly, we could all use TARDIS bigger-on-the-inside solutions for each and every section of our library spaces. Imagine crossing from an expansive nonfiction area to a seemingly ever-expanding picture book area to an exponentially growing seating area to a…

More Flubby books! Kids loved the first one I bought awhile back. J.E. Morris does a great job w/ accessible writing, funny, uncluttered art. Delightful, humorous crossovers of pic books/beginner readers/very early chapt books. I have an area of my Shorter Novels sections for such things.

Oh yep, they’re usually the first thing I cut when revising picture books….

I successfully removed permanent marker off this dry erase easel by scribbling over it with a dry erase marker to rehydrate it, then erasing. I’m definitely listing this as one of my library accomplishments this week. What’s your favorite trick like this?

I spent the #EconomicBoycott day at the BEST place I could think of... my public library. 📚 Libraries are my happy place 🥰

Found out some great news. Both of my '24 titles are Missouri Association of School Librarian Recommended Titles! The vision of the Missouri Dogwood Outstanding Nonfiction Committee is to provide children of Missouri w/a recommended list of nf titles that will interest them & enrich their lives.

It's a Kirkus star for A LINE CAN GO ANYWHERE by Caroline McAlister 🌟 “A title worth moving to the head of the line.” 🌟 www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews...

Did you know that we have a monthly book box where we curate a book for you? I'm thinking about how we revamp it so that more people know about it. I'd love to hear what you'd like to see in an indie bookstore's curation of a book box.

A little late to the party, but here's my #carlidtiys entry! 😅 Had to finalize some sketch revisions for my current project, and I also recorded some of the process. It was so much fun to participate! 💖 Hey, it's still February, right?🤭 #kidlitart #kidlit #kidlitillustration

Just under the wire for February's SCBWI Draw This challenge! The prompt is "cycle" and I decided to go with a paper cut collage. #scbwidrawthis #scbwi #scbwiillustrators #kidlit #kidlitart #papercut #collage

Getting a first look at THEY WORK: HONEY BEES, NATURE'S POLLINATORS! Out March 25th with Familius Publishing. See the metamorphosis of the insect and the jobs they embark on. ✒️ June Smalls 🖼 Yukari Mishima #kidlit

“In theory, the new requirements could prohibit any publisher with a book in print using the words ‘Gulf of Mexico‘ in its text from receiving federal funding.“ 🤯 www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

Had a toddler have a bit of melt down in Storytime today because he wanted me to read a train book. Friends I was reading Freight Train by Crews at the time.

Hey, so if you're one of the (too many) laid off federal employees who also writes or illustrates books for kids, I'd love to hear from you. I'm always interested in nonfiction proposals for all age groups within kidlit, and science, math, and history will be even more important soon. #MSWL

See a hug, post a hug #kidlitart #kidlit

A LOT of people out there saying "I don't like what's going on but a boycott will hurt tipped servers" and "I'm super mad about all this but putting up a protest sticker/flyer seems too radical" and folks, I cannot. *fyi, buy-nothing day tomorrow focuses on big chains. Use cash @ small businesses

The "hey hey LBJ how many kids did you kill today" chant is perfectly suited to reuse with RFK instead, just a thought

Not just deserve. Weather monitoring, disease management, and food safety are services we pay for from the government that are being stolen from us.

As designed

I can't believe we have to convince people that predicting the weather is important

It's the Affordable Care Act all over again. The GOP kept referring to it as "Obamacare" as a derogatory term, but the very people who cheered them on didn't know they were ACA recipients because, ofc, their state didn't actually call it "Obamacare." Then they panicked to learn GOP wanted to cut it.
