"Control of your university fees, welfare system, defence and public infrastructure could be in the hands of a leader supported by less than a third of voters. That is, unless we do something to change it." New blog by Young MVM Ambassador Katie Todd 👇

Walking into the weekend like..

"Let's work together to make votes matter and get electoral reform." @ollyglover.bsky.social comments on the latest British Social Attitudes survey results, published today. 👇 Support for a fairer voting system is higher than ever. It's time for the government to listen.

New research shows that support for a fairer voting system has hit a new high. This rise in support is no surprise. For too long, First Past the Post has distorted democracy, and the 2024 general election gave us the least representative parliament in British history.

💥 BREAKING: Public support for a fairer voting system hits all-time high The new British Social Attitudes survey report reveals: - A record 60% of the public want to change the voting system. - Just 36% back FPTP. - Electoral reform is backed by supporters of ALL major parties.

"A record 60% of respondents now favour replacing the current electoral system. The report underscores the importance of the work being done by @appgfairelections.bsky.social inside parliament and @openbritain.bsky.social, Make Votes Matter and others outside." - @bylinetimes.bsky.social

💥 At 60%, support for electoral reform is the highest it's ever been 📊 A majority of supporters of each of the parties - including Conservatives - support change ⚠️ Those who are most mistrustful of government are more likely to support voting system change @natcen.bsky.social's Alex Scholes

1. The fact that the US and the UK both issue their own currency is not a secret - it’s been written about by the Bank of England (BoE) and you can even look it up on Wikipedia. The question to ask might be: why is this not being spoken about by politicians and economists?

We hear the phrase "work-life balance" all the time. One of the 3 most common objections to universal basic income is that people would work less. On balance, because less work means more life, that's the same thing as fearing that people would live more. Oh no, people lived 2 hours more per week…

1. What Would Happen if the ‘Government Debt’ Was Actually Fully Paid Off? If we were to follow the advice of neoclassical economists, who urge us to ‘extinguish the national debt’, i.e., reduce the figure in the consolidated government debt spreadsheet down to zero, it could be

The only possible reason for wanting to leave the EHCR (Equality and Human Rights Commission), which is designed to protect human rights, is because you want to be able to abuse those rights. No ifs, no buts, that's your plan.

The UK benefits system cannot 'collapse'. The UK has a sovereign fiat currency which the government issues every time it spends. It cannot run out of money. It could, theoretically, run out of things to buy, but it can always pay its bills, whether they be pensions, NHS, defence, education etc etc.

"There are serious risks for the acceptability of our democracy if we don’t urgently change the system." @heraldscotland.bsky.social We agree. We can't risk one party winning total control on under 30% of the vote. Proportional Representation can't wait - we need it now.

Nine years since the murder of Jo Cox, our thoughts are with her loved ones. Let's always remember Jo's words: "we have far more in common than that which divides us." Let’s honour her memory by choosing understanding over hate, dialogue over division, and hope over fear.

Private Eye exposing again the utter idiocy of our politics. This sums up *exactly* how Farage and Reform get rocket-boosted by a media, drunk on sensationalist nonsense. Unserious and irresponsible but it’ll be up to us to prove them wrong.
