Can confirm, ICE in the baggage claim at Logan is a level of awful I have actually never seen before. And I have seen some things in my time.

A joyous afternoon in the company of crafters Roxanne & Vincent Kindersley, Rachel Warr, Jazmine Miles Long & Sarah Corbett at the Art Workers' Guild yesterday, curated by Rachael Matthews in celebration of dear Isabelle McNeill's life. An insight into what an holistic education can & should be!

Learned the amazing term "sadultery" today to describe that genre of fiction in which a depressed middle aged man has an affair with a woman twenty years his junior, and immediately @such-heights.bsky.social and I started running through the rest of the alphabet...

Supreme Court and EHRC interim guidance already having a chilling impact on trans safety in the UK - this happened to my friend yesterday, and they've asked for help in sharing it as widely as possible. And if this makes you angry - DO SOMETHING. We do not let the people who hate us win.

worth noting that the BFI Southbank, in a recent refurb, converted two small separate men’s/women’s toilet provisions into one large gender neutral toilet provision, you love to see it

Well, Supreme Court + EHRC interim guidance has already started fucking with my loved ones in a very direct and upsetting way, and I think I need to get off the internet before I start properly kicking off. Any advice on working on long term goals against current pain gratefully received

1. "I left as fast as I could. I didn’t wait for pain control. Is this the future for trans people in hospitals now?" My incredible friend Jamie Hale - writer, director, head of @cripticarts.bsky.social - was in hospital today, and this was their experience. They've given me permission to share.

I shared some thoughts on the supreme court, EHRC's interim guidance and the feminist dystopia some call 'gender critical' feminism yesterday. feministkilljoys.substack.com/p/meaningles...

always time to join the union excellent from @qmucu.bsky.social's Zara Dinnen www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ap...

UCLAN is one of England’s oldest HEIs, founded by working men in 1828. Its journalism course is one of longest established in the country, amongst the first to teach journalism as a practical undergrad course. But he doesn’t know these histories & he doesn’t really care about the working class.

two-thirds of students voted in favor of a resolution calling for georgetown to divest from companies arming israel. the administration refused went against the students, citing “institutional values.” anyhow, there are no universities left in gaza.

In case it wasn't obvious, I'm not voting for Labour tomorrow. It's not just disinterested ethical scruples: they're cutting the disability benefits of family members, mis-gendering my friends, and threatening my industry to appease racists who cannot be appeased. Why the hell should I?

We in/around universities are actually workers? Even researchers and lecturers like me yes(!!), but also cleaners, maintenance, hospitality, administrators, local businesses, many of whom might vote for you How is "I am in favour of major job losses" an acceptable Labour policy?

My university employs more than 6000 people. Even if you simply don’t care about the 2,800 academics, there are far more administrative staff, technical staff, security guards, caterers, cleaners who would lose their jobs if we went under.

This is very good actionable advice for non-transphobes in the UK (I think all I can do is give $ so I will):

Suggest ways people can support the UK trans community and campaign against the Supreme Court ruling at forms.office.com/r/D8b4aWk5nu Your suggestions could make it to this list, which you should totally share: tinyurl.com/help-uk-trans Please share widely! #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Scramble! Come on folks - this is your non-running way to raise money for charity today. Don't miss your chance! We're open until midnight BST.

Disabled women know more than most how blocking access to toilets isn’t a minor inconvenience - it’s a form of segregation from everyday life. It is turning down drinks with friends as you worry you can’t fulfil a basic human need if you go out. And knowing society has made the choice not to care.

Entries coming in thick and fast. Make sure your stories are in the mix! The more you send the more money we raise for @cftrustuk.bsky.social

Very happy that my story "Another Little Mermaid" will be part of this year's FlashFlood on 14 June - thank you to the editors! @natflashfictionday.bsky.social

So the EHRC wants to turn the clocks back to 1969, and now I'm blogging like it's 2012: cnlester.wordpress.com/2025/04/26/t... I had too many thoughts on the transphobic direction of travel to fit it into one message. I hope it helps.

An organisation with "equality" in the name creating a situation where what is *obviously* going to happen is that lone, already oversubscribed disabled loos across the country are going to become official "this is our reluctant minimum legal obligation for all of you lot toilet"

If you'd like to write to the Prime Minister's office about the Supreme Court ruling, you can do so here - contact.no10.gov.uk - 1000 character limit. I have just done so!

Trans allies in UK academia are going to need solid, sharable legal advice on what still counts as illegal under the equalities act before conference season starts this year Transphobes are emboldened and will push any actual legal implications of the Supreme Court ruling further than the reality

"Every border implies the violence of its maintenance. Violence comes in many kinds."

Looking forward to hearing Elizabeth Denlinger from @nypl.bsky.social discuss books, chapbooks, games, fiction, periodicals, and autobiographical accounts of trades and career choices for children in the Romantic Period at the London-Paris Romanticism Seminar @ies-sas.bsky.social on Friday 2 May.

@tupped.bsky.social - excellent news on EU Court interpretation of Trans’ rights. (and a brilliant critique of our neighbour’s Supreme Court reasoning) www.thegist.ie/the-gist-tra...

Holy shit, the Crab Museum went HARD

I will grant that I'm not a politician & am not au fait with all the complexities of legalities & strategies. But at some point these guys have to start asking themselves what they're in politics *for*. If you can't at least stand up for the marginalised, then what on earth are you doing?

Adding herewith to my (very) intermittent series, A JANE AUSTEN GUIDE TO FACULTY MEETINGS: "Female economy will do a great deal my Lord, but it cannot turn a small income into a large one."--The Watsons (Apposite at a time of catastrophic threats to funding for the humanities, here & everywhere ...)

This is a great article about the 1900 fight to have ladies' loos (which are still there) in Parkway, opposite Camden Town tube station dvalentin.pbworks.com/w/file/fetch... Where, incidentally, last time (this year) I entered them they were attended by a male security guard.

beside the point but, brutal decision for the gold star crowd, with the notable lack of 'only' in there

On trans things. I am reluctant to say I support trans people; you “support” football teams and Blue Peter appeals, not humanity, science and history. To deny trans entitlement to civilised existence is moral and intellectual bankruptcy. anyway. Write to your MP. www.theyworkforyou.com

In *Sweet Taste of Empire,* (forthcoming August 2025), you can read my re-visiting of the Black boy mentioned by Pepys who was “dried in an oven, and lies there entire in a box” who has been troubling me since graduate school. Another colonial “souvenir” 😢 www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

Photos from a magical GLOW choir session! Photos by Rachel Kiley. Glow choir takes privacy seriously and these photos had specific permissions granted, before being taken and before posting online. We think they capture something lovely about GLOW sessions!

More lovely photos of GLOW choir by Rachel Kiley. Specific permissions have been granted for use of these photos by the people in them, to promote GLOW choir.

GLOW choir is and will always remain a safer space that centers and affirms trans and non-binary voices, with pride and consistency, and without doubt.

The extent to which this ruling is making "biological" a legal/political synonym for "(what I consider to be) natural" is genuinely chilling.
