A too serious guy who is too much of an optimist, too much of an idealist, and too much of a believer in people to think the idiot and his gang will last long.

I suppose we're going to send the FSU white supremacist mass shooter from yesterday to El Salvador without due process, right? RIGHT???

We're in a trade war with the most powerful country we could go against for no good reason because we elected a delusional egomaniac who thinks he's living in the late 1800s. Not liking this storyline. Who's the show runner?

Today's SCOTUS ruling about the people being shipped to offshore prisons effectively suspends habeus corpus. You can be arrested for any reason or no reason and shipped to an offshore prison. Change my mind.

What a shit show. MAGA is incompetent at being incompetent.

People, if your are going to protest the shameful actions of your representatives at town halls, please have the decency to bring bells to ring as you yell "shame". Yes, these are trying times but let's not lose our sense of decorum.

The President has chosen to ignore a judge's ruling. I think we can safely say we are in a constitutional crisis. He has suspended But, more accurately, welcome to the dictatorship.

How does it feel to be treated like one of Trump's casinos? Asking for America.

Now that a good number of the regime's main characters are in place, I'm not too confident in their ability to respond to the next crisis. And there is always a next crisis.

The barrage of executive actions is bad. The inability to plan changes is worse. The incompetence of the people leading (and I use the term loosely) this country is the worst.

To find waste and fraud in the federal government, we had Inspectors General. Many (most?) of them were fired since inauguration day. But Elon can swoop down and in two weeks find enough waste and fraud in USAID to justify getting rid of the department. The absurdity. Wake up, people.

The more I read about Trump's misunderstanding of trade, deficits, and international economics, the more he looks like a DEI hire.

What would happen if Congress sent Capitol (or any) police to arrest Musk and his team for accessing classified systems, documents, and buildings without proper clearance like any other citizen would? Or, maybe the better question is why hasn't this happened yet?

Thomas wouldn't believe Jesus had risen without direct evidence. Then Jesus tells him that those who believe without evidence are blessed. What you believe and what you know are two different things that may or may not agree with each other. The important thing is not to confuse the two.

Democracy is no longer our system of government. We are the victims of a bloodless coup that the American citizenry authorized through their vote. This is not something that will be corrected through another vote...we may not get one.

The law is the Achilles heel they exploit. We are bound by the law. They are not because they don't care about the law. They are a corrupt group of people who have no respect for anything. They will stop at nothing to grab and maintain their power.

One reason so many churches were involved in the civil rights movement is that clergy get paid by their congregations, not employers. We need to build "churches" of journalism to get real stories out to counter misinformation. Support your independent journalists.

Journalists need to get the idea of respect for the office of the President preventing them from asking tough questions and calling things out for what they are. I know the LA Times, Washington Post, and most of the mainstream media can't and won't do this. Because money.

Has anyone asked what was so bad that tariffs are going to fix? Journalists have to start putting the new administration on the spot about their actions. More importantly, journalists need to call out crap for what it is.

Homeland Security has a quota of 1200 to 1500 arrests daily according to news reports. About a third of the arrests over the weekend we're "collateral arrests", they said. Meaning people who were arrested though they are citizens or here legally. Funny how these things creep up on you.

This clown is half Chuckie, half Pennywise, and totally dangerous to our health and medical infrastructure. As one would expect from the circus running this country now. newrepublic.com/post/190658/...

Hegseth was confirmed as Secretary of Defense, 17 Inspectors General have been fired, and ICE raids are underway. And my local supermarket is out of eggs. Buckle up, folks. It's going to be a wild four years.

Great detail in this graphic.

And when memory failed and written records were falsified—when that happened, the claim of the Party to have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted, because there did not exist, and never again could exist, any standard against which it could be tested.” – George Orwell, 1984

*The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists.* — Hannah Arendt

Hegseth has no ability to control himself. He has no understanding of strategic matters. He is a fool's idea of a smart man, much like the fool who nominated him.

Hegseth is a joke, sadly. Really, do we need a Private First Class leading the entire defense department? Have we really fallen so far?

I am not seeing anything else about this online. Does anyone in Asia have any news of this? www.republicworld.com/world-news/h...

Sure, let's let poor people get sick so they can increase the risk of everyone catching something. Our healthcare system can handle it. /s www.healthbeat.org/atlanta/2024...

Trump has both houses of Congress, the courts, and the presidency. And the media are capitulating to him. Some friends are self censoring and afraid to criticize MAGA. Am I the only one who feels like fascism is already here and nobody wants to acknowledge it?

Let's face it: ABC did not only lose its credibility, it lost it for the entire mainstream news landscape. open.substack.com/pub/harrylit...

The guy is Tiffany Trump's father in law and the role is a no show job so he can get money. Tax money laundering. Trump continues to make a mockery of our governmental institutions by saying they are so stupid even idiots with no qualifications can run them. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/12/w...

I keep seeing articles about how progressives going to BlueSky risk setting themselves up in an echo chamber. I'm not big on staying in environments where people see me as lesser. It's simple: If you can't see me as equal, I cannot be around you.

It just occured to me that the only African American in Trump's administration so far is Elon Musk.

I'm not sure why people are surprised there's little sympathy for the UHC CEO. We all have sympathy for victims, surel. Why don't health insurance companies have sympathy for the people who pay them? Because the goal of a corporation is to increase shareholder value. By any means necessary.

It's easier to convince folks it's someone else's fault than it is to convince them to look at themselves.

The unravelling. “Judicial Watch looks forward to getting any documents from the Fani Willis operation about collusion with the Biden administration and Nancy Pelosi’s Congress on her unprecedented and compromised ‘get-Trump’ prosecution.” www.ajc.com/politics/ful...

This guy is clueless. He needs to get back in his shell. thehill.com/homenews/sen...

The Hunter pardon looks bad politically but you have a fucking psycho who has sworn to put political opponents in jail set to take over the FBI. Who would not do this to protect their son? Sadly, this shows the normalization of the mockery Trump has made of our institutions.

Curious where that money went myself. On a more strategic level, this is precisely the downfall of the Democrats: shoot yourself so the opponent can't shoot you. Why on earth does Carville think this is what he needs to be shouting from the rooftops? www.huffpost.com/entry/james-...

I think he's right. It's against our nature to be narcissists and outright dishonest with people. However, we can be honest and empathetic while promoting our successes and their shenanigans. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...
