You can support the Educational Bookshop! @saqibooks.bsky.social have set up a gfm, give it a share / donate, help replace damaged books, repair the shop & cover interim booksellers while Mahmoud & Ahmad are (unfairly, infuriatingly) under house arrest. 👇 www.gofundme.com/f/jerusalems...

Reminder that booksellers & publishers are and always have been on the front lines of battles against censorship. They have fought for your right to read and write and express yourself. Support that fight. Keep bookshops like this alive. Give back:

Though their booksellers are now home, their trials & those of The Educational Bookshop are ongoing: We need YOU! Please join us in saying loud & clear the world over #BooksellingIsNotACrime and, crucially, help us to raise funds to support the Educational Bookshop: www.gofundme.com/f/jerusalems...

In January, @stopcambo.bsky.social and @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social defeated Rosebank in court. This is a MASSIVE win for the climate movement. For @lighthousebks.bsky.social (one of my fave bookshops!) I wrote about our win, what it means, & our next steps. lighthousebookshop.com/posts/a-win-...

‘We did it!’ We’re immensely pleased to feature a guest blog from Jemima Elliott of the #StopRosebank campaign after their recent court victory, defeating the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields in the courts. lighthousebookshop.com/posts/a-win-...

Public service reminder: not all organising happens on social media. In fact, some organising can only happen off social media/by redirecting energies to offline & in person collaborations. Sometimes the activism churns below the surface.

📚 “If art is a conduit for beauty above all else, there is no description of the finches beautiful enough to offset all that is taken out of the world when a child is murdered by an occupation force” 🕊️ Omar El-Akkad book launch - vital, and important @lighthousebks.bsky.social @canongate.co.uk

Relieved at news of Mahmoud and Ahmad's release, though their house arrest and restrictions are another appalling government over reach: Bookselling is NOT A CRIME! Solidarity continues to be needed as the case continues, and as the bookshop gets back on its feet.

The raid on the Jerusalem Educational Bookstore and arrest of its workers/owners, Mahmoud and Ahmad Muna, is outrageous. It is the only bookstore specializing in issues of Palestine, Israel, and Jerusalem. It is an iconic store that preserves what little is left of Palestinian culture in the city.

This breaks my heart, and makes me so angry. I've spent a lot of time at The Educational Bookshop, and it's a true gem. Filled with great books, including what might be the largest selection of Arab/Palestinian queer books I have ever seen. Photos from my visit in August:

We called for solidarity when Hungary's govt targeted bookshops over queer stock, & again when feminist bookshops were targeted in the UK, & we relied on solidarity when our own booksellers were harassed into closing: Book lovers must stand together against persecution of ALL book workers!

This is tragic. The Educational Bookshop is an institution in a place that needs it. Mahmoud and Ahmed do the work that ripples out through generations.
