Amen to this.

Happy Birthday to the BBC Sport "Pres 2" virtual set - 4 years old today! It has been host to multiple different sports and proved itself to be one of the most flexible and value-for-money set designs on TV! #bbcsport #virtualset #virtualsetdesign #unrealengine #vizrt

Back in the studio, this week, after a 6 month hiatus. Working with the amazing team at BBC Sport on the biggest sporting event of the summer. #bbcsport #virtualset #virtualsetdesign #greenscreen

Article in @theguardian.com confirming what everyone in the TV industry has been experiencing to some degree. It has been difficult , but for some it has been catastrophic www.theguardian.com/media/2025/m...

Couldn't fathom why the 'C' drive on one workstation was flling up, all of the time...then I stumbled upon C:\ProgramData\Epic\EpicGamesLauncher\VaultCache and found where UE has been stashing all of it's leftovers. 217GB!

Exceprts from a talk on designing for virtual sets and production, by Jim Mann of Lightwell at CCIXR in Portsmouth, last month - youtu.be/RxBBEgp3IPc

Our virtual set collaboration with @bkdesignprojects from 2021, to create a home for Finnish Ice Hockey, on Discovery+ Built in Unreal Engine and powered by Zero Density The case study can be found on our website www.lightwell.tv/case-studies... #virtualsetdesign #unrealengine #zerodensity

5 Years ago, this month, the creative and production teams for the BBC's Tokyo Olympics convened in Granada Studios in Manchester, to work on the only stand-up test and technical rehearsal for the set, before it shipped to Tokyo for the Olympic games... #virtualset #virtualsetdesign

A huge thank you to the team at University of Portsmouth's CCIXR for hosting me for my talk, yesterday and enabling me to go back to Paris, via their Smart Stage. They are doing incredible things with virtual production. #virtualproduction #smartstage #unrealengine #ledstage #ccixr #uniofportsmouth

Finally getting around to adding some of our legacy projects to our website. They might be old(ish) but the design and preparation are still world class. Our first legacy project to be added is the LED based virtual set extensions for Bloomberg in New York. www.lightwell.tv/case-studies...

The Dark Ruins demo project for @unrealengine.bsky.social and @quixeltools.bsky.social is sumptuous, but I think this is my favourite part...543 lights, and performance, whilst not quite fast enough for a live virtual set, isn't far off the mark. MegaLights!!! #unealengine #unrealengine5

Seeing lots of complaints online about pursuit of "visual quality" ruining gaming. I don't buy that one bit. Having grown up playing games from pong, through to Space Invaders, Atari, Spectrum's, NES, Sega Megadrive, and Playstations 1-5, every improvement to visual quality has been a joy to embrace

"I can always tell when something is CGI" No, you can't. You can tell when you can tell. When you can't tell, you thought it was practical. #film #films #movies #nocgi #cgi #vfx #visualeffects #practicaleffects #practicalfilmmaking

2024 Reflections, on the Lightwell blog www.lightwell.tv/blog-posts/r...

A perfect take...

I’m sure he wants the history of it all told his way.

“The easier it is for us to do our best work, the better it is for the industrY.” Amen to that

At @lightwell.tv we love to create Christmas/Snow scenes in a virtual set…

We learned a long time ago that if you produce virtual sets that get used during the Christmas period, you’ve got to accept that eventually someone will add virtual trees, snow, decorations, etc
