Maybe we've finally turned a corner? 🌱

The long melt is on pause here for a couple days, but the smells from the Vermont Flower Show are helping me get through.

Made this today as my first foray into baguettes. The outside was, uh, rustic, but the interior didn't suffer despite my clumsy shaping and scoring. Fast too - made in the moments between a Tartine dough and done before that dough was even on bench rest. Win win.

Everybody in the gardening feed is showing off their early spring blooms and we probably won't even see the ground for another 4-6 weeks 🌱

Winter Loaves

It's a Percy exclusive!

Il paradiso delle signore coming in hot, tho nothing beats the Pietro Mori / Teresa Iorio years.

Up before dawn on this extremely cold morning - perfect for making Tartine's country rye loaf.

Focaccia heads: made the King Arthur Baking (which will always be KAF to me) recipe of the year, Big Bubbly Focaccia. Put it in a larger pan as is my preference for a snack focaccia and not a towering beast to make a sandwich, but still quite tall and delicious as advertised.

Essential Percy and Victoria.

...and we're back!

Oven saga continues, but did some makeshift baking in the basic range at work. Having a solid baking vessel was very helpful, but the browning was a little uneven once the lid came off. Not bad though.

Bad news: my oven went kaput and, of course, there's a series of technical hurdles to cross to replace it. Good news: these @wordloaf.bsky.social biscuits from the freezer cooked up fairly well even in our tiny toaster oven.

Watch me jumpstart.

Not to disappoint the sourdough community that just started following me today but rn I'm pretty excited that Cuori is back

Oak leaf hydrangeas are extremely underrated - this is only its first fall 🌱

Victoria admiring the one nearby tree at peak leaf.

Sourdough bagels* *Minus one, consumed

Made Martin Philip's Pane Genzano this evening. Absolutely great bake, even despite me being a bit off on the the proofing. Will be making this one a lot.
