I am excited to share some of my research on Akerman’s extraordinary Letters Home at the BFI next week through a recorded introduction. Tickets on sale here: whatson.bfi.org.uk/Online/defau...

For those interested in learning more about my research on Screen Two, I have written a blog post for Forgotten Television Drama: forgottentelevisiondrama.wordpress.com/2025/02/18/s...

"A love letter from one writer to another, and a rallying cry to Hollywood to return to the principles of its true first lady." @lillcrawf.co.uk's review of MARY C. McCALL JR, by @jesmyth.co.uk in the @thetls.bsky.social shorturl.at/JM8GZ @columbiaup.bsky.social

Love this great review of my biography of screenwriter Mary C. McCall Jr. by @lillcrawf.co.uk for @thetls.bsky.social…

I am delighted to have an essay in this book of the most esteemed film writers, exploring the childhoods of my grandparents in the wake of the Blitz through the lens of Ealing Studios and Powell & Pressburger. Order a copy now! we-love-cinema.com/big-smoke-bi...

Fascinating. I, too, have always felt out of place in this world, and immersed myself in Doctor Who on local PBS stations from a very young age. Tom Baker is my Doctor, and I even have the scarf.

The connection between Doctor Who and autism goes back to its very beginning. I had great fun teasing out the neurodiversity of the show for the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, available now.

FYI: Little White Lies is entirely anti-AI, and we will never allow our writers' and illustrators' work to be used to train AI models. This is completely against what journalism and art should be and should stand for and it's disheartening to see other publications being taken down this road.

It has been a truly horrendous year. Music is so often the only thing that keeps me stable, and I was heartbroken that my accident prevented me from attending the 2024 Proms. The greatest guiding light was this new recording of my favourite opera, Alcina, which I have listened to every day.

Another incredible concert from Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion (featuring Ringdown) at the Barbican this evening. If you haven’t heard their cover of ‘Lay All Your Love on Me’ I highly recommend you do so.

My brief introduction for Desert Hearts has been uploaded to the Garden Cinema’s YouTube Channel, I hope you enjoy. youtu.be/1nEcCRQRNrM?...

I’ve very predictably been slacking on posting over here, so boosting this once more and wishing to crawl back into my happy Wicked bubble.

Delivery of the year (except for my infant daughter, obvs). And this beautiful BFI Watership Down 4K features contributions from some of the most incredibly talented folk I know: Sam Summers, @filmsonwax.bsky.social, @lillcrawf.co.uk, and @fatscoleman.bsky.social. Cracking physical media, Gromit!

The gorgeous 4K restoration of Watership Down is available to purchase now, featuring a book with a chapter I wrote on the books of Richard Adams. So pleased this is finally being published. shop.bfi.org.uk/watership-do...

Tomorrow evening’s screening of Desert Hearts at the Garden Cinema is almost sold out! I am delighted to have recorded the intro I had hoped to deliver on Saturday which will be screened before the film. www.thegardencinema.co.uk/film/dessert...

While we’re on the subject of excellent BBC adaptations, here’s another one: Vita Sackville-West’s ALL PASSION SPENT with Wendy Hiller in the lead role. On the iPlayer for the next 2 months. #BookSky 💙📚 www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Please do join us for this screening at the BFI tomorrow evening.

It has to be Léger, always Léger. I think Suite for Barbara Loden is probably the only book one ever needs to read to be a film critic.

The Last Showgirl feels like a film from the 1970s, calling to mind Ash Wednesday, Ship of Fools, and Fedora. Pamela Anderson embodies her character completely, sensitively navigating the complexity of ageing in show business. An honour to hear her speak after the screening.

I’m gutted that I had to drop out of introducing Desert Hearts at the Garden Cinema this evening for medical reasons. I wanted to talk about @alpember.bsky.social’s wonderful season, and the inclusion of this remarkable film as a “trailblazer”.

A treat to share the stage with @cheysays.bsky.social and Leila Latif on the @lwlies.com podcast this week, running through Wicked, Blitz, and The Wizard of Oz. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

'While Hollinghurst's early novels feel more indebted to other gay writers, Our Evenings is of a style that can only be described as his own' Lillian Crawford on Alan Hollinghurst's rich chronicles of gay life: www.bbc.com/culture/arti... #books #reading #writing #fiction

As someone who has long loathed the musical Wicked, no one could be more surprised than I am to discover the film adaptation is a delight. Highly recommend an escape to Oz this weekend. My review for Sight and Sound: www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-so...

Finally framed my Powell and Pressburger season poster. I cannot believe that was a year ago, just the best three months of cinema.
