🧵Excellent question! This is what I would call a Lutheran divine mystery. “the fact that nothing has been [divinely] commanded or enjoined upon us concerning the dead. Therefore all this may be safely omitted, even if it were no error and idolatry.”(Source: bookofconcord.org/smalcald-art... )

The coffee hour vibe is sharing the love of Christ and being neighborly.

Omg at the point where they have a pastor say the Martin Niemöller confession “first they came for” (which was after the war,) in 1934 during a sermon with the Gestapo present?

One of the craziest things about the Bonhoeffer movie is the timeline is completely discontinuous. In 1934 supposedly he played a recording of a rendition of Swing Low Sweet Chariot by Paul Robeson which was published in 1949? The eastern front (in 34???) is mentioned in the same segment.

“All but none of the above”

“I am very dissatisfied with the services I do not partake in.”

🧵The relationship between Lutheranism and economic justice needs more focus: "Christians are to be taught that he who sees a man in need, and passes him by, and gives [his money] for pardons, purchases not the indulgences of the pope, but the indignation of God" (45th - 95 Theses) #Lutheran #ELCA

Happy first Sunday of advent !!! ☺️

Even if the world is against you, Christ still loves you.

For those of you looking to refuse the Bonhoeffer movie's "dangerous and grievous misuse of his theology and life." The Bonhoeffer Society has a petition: www.change.org/p/stop-misus... #ELCA Please share, as led.

🧵When we think of the 5th commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill," Luther reminds us that it is not merely the act in and of itself which is forbidden; but also, that we must act such "that the heart be not ill disposed toward anyone," in a manner which could potentially lead to violence. #Lutheran #elca
