More important than ever to notice the good. Look for the sunsets. Wrap up in a cosy blanket. Please take good care. #resistfascism #thisbeautifulplanet

Trees instinctively know how to pause and rest. They go through periods of stasis through the year, and even relax their branches at night. Learn from the trees. Pause when you can, and rest when you need to. onetreeplanted.org/blogs/storie... #wisdomoftrees #pause #rest #restpractices

One of the voices I have been listening to as I watch the downfall of a western democracy - @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social

I’ve been writing about troubled times ever since the pandemic hit (and maybe even before that). Troubled times are still here (with a vengeance). One of my most important ways to gain clarity and some settledness is to rest every day - sometimes for 10 minutes and sometimes for 20 or more. #rest

Important reminder from @natsechobbyist.bsky.social

What makes it particularly difficult for so many of us is the cognitive dissonance of it all. We’re witnessing the downfall of a western democracy, but there is still laundry to do and meals to make, and the sun keeps rising and setting…

More important than ever to pause and look around. On we go.

A really solid piece by @alindguzik.bsky.social about how a country can descend into fascism; important read for Canadians too.

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

Despite the many flaws of liberal democracy, people are going to miss it when it’s gone.

Still funny :)

You have traveled too fast over false ground; Now your soul has come to take you back. Take refuge in your senses, open up To all the small miracles you rushed through... Draw alongside the silence of stone Until its calmness can claim you. Be excessively gentle with yourself. - John O'Donohue

Even with all of the evil and insanity, maybe our mandate is the same as it always has been: To be good stewards of this earth, To honour and protect diversity in the human world as well as in the rest of the natural world, And to allow the joy that sneaks in unexpectedly.

Snow-covered branches create an arch looking out towards the Ottawa river on a sunny winter day. Breathing with you. On we go.
