Out today! BANNED TOGETHER edited by Ashley Hope Perez w/art by Debbie Fong. This collection includes fiction, nonfiction, comics, & more, all centered around book banning as it's happening right now. I'm honored to have an essay in this collection. Grab your copy today, wherever you'd like.

First Born Girls is out today šŸ„¹ šŸŽ‰ It made me think about my own experiences as a firstborn. McFadden explores the idea of the "mother wound," and examines how as we become women we regard our mothers differently- this is also an act of healing. This memoir is so tenderly written! #booksky

Dream Count made me reflect on the difference between being truly known versus being desired. It raises questions about whether love is authentic if the other person doesnā€™t understand us. I appreciated how Adichie explores womenā€™s experiences, especially when struggling w/self-worth. #booksky

Shout out to PixieLightHorse whose books have found me at the right time! So much gets thrown at you as a new author and itā€™s been A LOT energetically. Grateful for the book medicine that grounds me. šŸ„¹šŸ™ŒšŸ¾ #booksky

ā€œā€Brokeā€ was my starting point and I wanted to acknowledge that, and I damn sure wanted people to know that me being Black played a part in that tooā€¦. This was a space for acknowledgment and acceptance, not defeat. This was me saying, ā€œThis is where I am, and thatā€™s okay.ā€ ā€œ #booksky

When I saw the image of me beside this advertisement of the Frederick Douglass lecture at the New Britain Institute, I cried. The library plays a central role in community mental health. I write all about the importance of the public library in my book ā€˜Bibliotherapy in the Bronxā€™ (April 29 2025)

Who needs a 9-5 when I could be scouring the globe for rare books and whispering ā€œfirst editionā€šŸ„° Romney, a rare book dealer and Austen superfan, takes us on a historical journey into the women writers who inspired Austen. This book is part history and ā€œtake all my money, antiquarian bookshops.ā€

Spoiler alert: I LOVE how they acknowledged workplace racism by putting in those micro-aggressions that Mr. Michick experienced: the new ā€œarchivalā€ portraits along with those truly random items on his performance review about the big words & paper clips in the wrong place. So great!

Theo and Darla have us STRESSED. Is Theo a sadist? Or selfish? Who will make it through this book with their relationship (and their sanity) intact? One reader said reading this audiobook is the first time she reduced her speed of reading below 1x. I get it! Join us on Storygraph & Fable!

From young motherhood to activism, Malloryā€™s story is as inspiring as it is unfiltered. Her life is a reminder that leadership requires courage and vulnerability. ā€˜I Lived to Tell the Storyā€™ is a must-read for anyone passionate about equity &navigating the intersection of motherhood and ambition.

LOCA by Alejandro Heredia delivered on its promise in every way. I loved watching these characters navigate tough choices and what it truly means to belong. This debut novel is so Dominican and so NY. It captures the heart of an unforgettable cast & celebrates queer life between DR & NY. #booksky

Reading this felt like engaging in a deep convo! Ewingā€™s insights on how giftedness is disproportionately assigned to white children exposes the insidious ways bias is baked into our schools. Original Sins is an invitation to reckon with how education continues to shape racial inequality today.

As readers, we are compelled to escape into stories. Chihaya does a phenomenal job exploring why that might be while sharing her struggles with depression. Bibliophobia shows how reading isn't just comforting. It brings up difficult feelings and reveals hard truths we've been avoiding. #booksky

I donā€™t know what I love more: teaching Bibliotherapy, supervising social workers, or teaching Bibliotherapy with a social work lens to library workers. Tonight I teach my first MLIS course so weā€™re about to find out! Iā€™m SO hype to be in community with library workers. Grateful for your work!

Jessie Fauset was the first Black woman to become the literary editor at The Crisis, Du Boisā€™ magazine. Todayā€™s release explores the complicated reality of her lifeā€”especially their love affair. This story shows how two imperfect people create something revolutionary for Black literature #booksky

As a forever library kid and New Britain High alum, Iā€™m excited to collab w/NBPL for Black History Month during ā€˜A Celebration of Black America: Past, Present & Futureā€™ šŸ–¤šŸ“š Iā€™ll be leading an author talk on bibliotherapy and the healing power of lit. šŸ“ NBPL šŸ“… Saturday, Feb 15th ā° 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Mottley writes the girls in ā€˜The Girls Who Grew Bigā€™ w/so much depth, capturing their innocence AND the maturity forced upon them by motherhood. ā€œLove leaves a memory in the heart, even when your head tells you it shouldnā€™t.ā€ Memory is fickle. And now we have someone in office who is actively working to erase our histories. ā€˜Good Dirtā€™ is a story about honoring the past, healing from loss, and finding strength in what remains. #booksky

ā€œThis work is important because the work of remembering is also the work of asserting value to what and who is remembered.ā€ šŸ’™ Reading ā€˜Black in Blues: How a Color Tells the Story of My Peopleā€™ by Imani Perry reminded me how Black people turn grief into art, pain into beauty, and sorrow into song.
