Well they seemed to foresee the price of cocoa going through the roof (chocolate was no longer available).

The BBC seems to be obsessed with this.

Please, not another one. Sorry, it’s an unfollow from me.

Enjoy your time in Madrid, Henry! Shame that Clarkson has to weave racist comments into his basically sound argument.

I really don’t know why the media are obsessing over her.

To prepare, I highly recommend Carol and the End of the World (still on Netflix, I think)

Shout-out for the Bora induction hob with its in-built extractor fan.

Thanks, this has confirmed my instinct to give it a miss.

It seems such an obvious move. The levy could fund essential services as well as attractions such as museums, some of which are currently struggling. Good discussion of that issue by @benansell.bsky.social on his Rethink programme this week.

I still resent May’s attempt to reinvent herself as the voice of reason after her ridiculous Brexit red lines as well as appointing Johnson to her cabinet. Nowhere near as bad as Truss, obvs.

Totally agree about presentations. Attended one recently when the AI took over completely, skipping forward to slides at the wrong time and rewriting the presenter’s notes. In a way, quite reassuring that AI isn’t ready for this yet!

If Art House cinema is more your style, Curzon membership also good value and do consider independents like The Garden Cinema.

Had this argument so many times with my mother-in-law (a Daily Mail reader 😡).

Haven’t watched it yet. Would your advice be “Don’t bother“?

Agreed and the BBC should deactivate its own X accounts.

Haha, superb. I remember it well. You have to admire the choreography.

Any show/film the publicity for which has people waving guns around is on the blacklist, I’m afraid.

It’s even worse by the time you get to your 60s! Only ever works for me if it includes small children.

Plenty of options in Charlotte Street to relieve the gloom!

Agree and would also recommend the World Service podcast, The Global Story.

No, you’re right, just checked the lyrics! It was Rod who was at school - my mistake.

Really enjoyed this podcast. Fascinating to speculate whether Thatcher would have been elected in 1979 had Healey or Jenkins won the Labour Leadership contest of 1976, rather than Callaghan.

Pathetic of the Guardian to run this piece.

Dan, was this the case you have mentioned where the taxpayer (Grint) initially applied for anonymity?

Agree it’s great but also quite a faff

The idea that this man is apparently being seriously considered as ambassador to the US (as well as Chancellor of Oxford University) is ridiculous.

Just read this article. Really interesting, although some of the comments underneath it are pretty eccentric takes, to put it mildly.

On lack of awareness, Google reported a surge in searches for “Did Biden drop out” on US election day.

Yes please to breaking news but with informed analysis which generates discussion. Like many, I’ve quit X and like this as an alternative.

Gave up watching Series 1. Too annoying.

And when did Labour make assurances that they would not tamper with IHT reliefs? Simply not true!

Aren’t you thinking of that literary masterpiece “Jump”?

Let’s see what’s in the Budget. There might have been energy coursing through politics in 2010 but with questionable motives (imposing austerity) as explained brilliantly by @cjayanetti.bsky.social recently.

His instincts were better than his successors’ (not a high bar) but his conduct over the Owen Paterson affair demonstrated otherwise and arguably made his downfall inevitable.

Seriously? Are you ok? “Inconveniencing many people”? 😂

Disappointed that the FT ran with this without adding such context.

The deep unfairness of grammars is the writing-off of so many children at age 11.

Agree, that could be on the cards.
