trans kids are not “a wedge issue” they are children jfc

every centrist pundit who called me a lunatic for suggesting any Republicans would ever investigate miscarriages should be legally required to supply me with a basket of tomatoes and ten minutes with them in a pickleball court

Let’s talk for a moment about some of the more subtle ways that the press acts as a mouthpiece for law enforcement. Actor Jonathan Joss was shot to death on Sunday. I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there. But his husband said a homophobic neighbor shot him as part of an explicit hate crime. /1

Trump has signed an order doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from 25% to 50%. The move hikes import taxes on the metals, which are used in everything from cars to canned food, for the second time since March. This will drive up prices for American consumers on a wide range of products.

Man comes to the US from Lebanon. Starts out delivering pizzas, becomes a Nobel winning neuroscientist. Trump freezes his funding, he gets an email from China offering to move his lab “any city, any university I want" with guaranteed funding for 20 years. What are we doing?

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

Nothing going on is that hard to understand as long as someone with some credibility has the desire to explain it and the space to do so and I’m glad this NBC station did this for their viewers

If you're wondering, I looked it up—this is Pritzker at Chicago Pride in 1993, the year he earned his law degree.

Retire you decrepit asshole. Your career has amounted to less than nothing, you're not up to the moment, and the country would be no poorer for your absence. Continuing to cling to power with your half dead hands is a tribute to your narcissism and an embarrassment to your loved ones.

"Last but certainly not least, I endorse Zohran for his inspiration. This guy has brought out thousands upon thousands of fellow New Yorkers into rallies, into meetings, on the streets going door to door. This is a massive operation that I've never seen before." - @liunewyork.bsky.social

The Washington Examiner (the conservative news outlet) reports that Stephen Miller screamed at ICE officials: "What do you mean you're going after criminals? Why aren't you at Home Depot? Why aren't you at 7-Eleven?" Kinda blows up the narrative that they care about public safety.

look I was a debate team kid and an uber nerd so yes of course I learned that Scalia was a beautifully gifted writer so I read a bunch of his writing and my main takeaway was that lawyers thinking this is great prose is a major indictment of the literacy of lawyers

antonin scalia is the author of what I consider to be one of the most poorly written and deeply offensive paragraphs to ever appear in the U.S. reports. Two run-on sentences that are almost completely incomprehensible--except insofar as they communicate that their author hates gay people

Antonin Scalia will be remembered because he was a long-serving justice on the Supreme Court, responsible for foisting the idiocy of originalism on us and a key player in some disastrous rulings. That's his lasting claim to fame. His prose stylings might warrant a footnote.

What was done to Israelis on October 7th, and the ongoing detention of the hostages, was and is an atrocity. The ongoing genocide in Gaza was not an appropriate response— it is also an atrocity. Responding to that atrocity with fresh ones, like Jews being gunned down or set on fire? Also atrocity.

So the woman sitting next to me at a wedding tonight explained to me that NIH is only cutting poor quality science grants like the one trying to make mice transgender. We have lost the communication battle

It means he’s a Republican.

Someone else said something very similar to this the other day, but. It really burns me that our (millennials') generation was legally terrorized for like, downloading Radiohead discographies But we're supposed to be ok with billionaires stealing human intellectual output in its entirety bc AI

Contempt charges, come on

To be clear: I'd take Justice Jeanine Pirro for the next 3 years over Justice James Ho for the next 30, and if you think I'm wrong it's only because you have no fucking clue how dangerous James Ho is going to be.

I take back everything I ever said about attorneys not being funny. Darkly, ironically, one might even say savagely funny, but funny nonetheless

Last week my D&D group — made up of middle-aged men like me — was discussing the dilemma of having the ability to purchase extremely ludicrously expensive but very cool dice but not the energy to deal with the resulting family arguments.

Last year, a handful of Democrats tanked Joe Biden's impressive judicial nominee Adeel Mangi out of cowardice. Now Trump is ready to fill this U.S. appeals court seat with his pick: his own criminal defense attorney and "hatchet man" at DOJ. www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

Great summary of Justice Thomas’ corruption by @leahlitman.bsky.social.

I cannot envision any world in which Gavin Newsom wins a Democratic Primary.

The solution to the Democrats messaging problem isn’t to replicate the rw media ecosystem, but to recognize what makes it powerful, including the participatory storytelling and sense of agency it provides to its audiences, and to adapt those dynamics in ways that align w/ Dem/progressive values.

People often think they must not understand cryptocurrency or assume it has value because so many people are promoting it. But, it's not complicated. Every argument about the social value of crypto amounts to: it's harder for the government to tax and track than $ in banks. It's about $ laundering.

Deeply abnormal behavior. What the fuck is wrong with people

The Wall Street Journal had a piece last night that the Judicial Conference of the United States — the policy making body for the federal judiciary — is discussing whether the Judiciary should have its own armed security force rather than rely on the U.S. Marshals for federal judges’ protection.

Hard to believe they’re talking about the same event.

Well, it sure didn't take very long for Trump go from deporting poor "illegal immigrants" to coming after rich legal Ivy League foreign students. Sooner or later, they'll come for you too. Fascism always does.

We’re living through a teenagers dream of kewl people being in charge.

The only hope we have for the Supreme Court to enforce limits on the executive is a Democratic president

Per Jose Olivares on X, here is a likely quid for the CECOT pro quo. Trump is dropping criminal charges against multiple serious MS-13 leaders we are currently trying to prosecute. Many of them are “inconvenient” to Bukele, as they previously admitted to working with him before the truce broke.

The line in Bush v. Gore that’s like “uhhh our holding applies to uhhh this election only,” but for the sake of the current conservative justices’ investment portfolios

Tell me: if these dudes show up with guns in an unmarked van to grab someone, why don’t the Second Amendment fans think they should be shot?

very cool that for ten years people at the heights of political commentary insisted to the point of rage that the paramount threat to free speech was “censorious” college students

Yeah, whiteness
