We hope the city will finally come to its senses and no longer allow cars to drive across the Downtown Mall (legally or illegally)

This is how solidarity works. Very grateful to every organization who does things like this. The feeling is mutual. Our future must be intersectional or we will be defeated.

This is the approach we need from our aca/professional orgs, not "we can only comment on how this troubles [privileged person's tiny-slice picture of] our field/profession". Scholarship's core=work to widen community of who can safely take part+whose work+past is remembered; & stating so matters:

Our focus is on housing and transportation. But we know what every decent person understands: our community is harmed when people are denied the medical care they need. We encourage you to show up to the Rotunda Friday morning to show support for our trans neighbors and the right to healthcare.

At this point, the BOS meeting for today is still happening. We encourage you to be safe, but note that you can provide comment via Zoom. We have more information on the steps to do that in our advocacy guide: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

The weather has shifted and we now expect the Board of Supervisor meeting to happen on Wednesday. We need you to show up at 1pm or 6pm to support housing. And we have awesome new signs people can hold during the meeting!! Info on the who/what/how here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

For anyone wondering about AirBnb and other homestays in Cville, here's a document we put together at @livablecville.bsky.social to help inform future policy making drive.google.com/file/d/1HRGe...

CALL TO ACTION: Albemarle County Housing Advocacy! Please plan to show up to the Board of Supervisors meeting this Wednesday at 1pm or 6pm. However, snow may result in this being postponed, but you can email the BOS today to voice support for better housing policies. 🧵

🚨 Thursday 13 Feb 5-7, @livablecville.bsky.social drop-in social is happening at the Ix Park @brazos.bsky.social 🚨 The weather sucks today but will be decidedly more inviting to venture out into the world tomorrow. I hope to see you there!

Come join us Thursday at Ix @brazos.bsky.social from 5-7pm for our monthly social event! It’s always a good time with great food and a chance to get to know each other better. Stop by and say hey!

We love to see it!

More housing is good!

We want more trains through Charlottesville! It’s a proven concept and demand is incredibly strong.

Some would say it’s a bad idea to send a new edition of our newsletter during the first half of the Super Bowl. But we had a sense people would need some entertainment in the second half. Check it out! mailchi.mp/livablecvill...

Thank you @infocville.bsky.social for covering the efforts of local organizations to push Albemarle County to take serious action on affordable housing open.substack.com/pub/communit...

Excited HB 2245 passed with broad bipartisan support (74-25). Fair taxation of affordable rental housing is an important step towards more 🏡🏡🏡

Tonight the Albemarle County Affordable Housing Advocacy Letter will be presented to the Board of Supervisors. 48 (!!) amazing local groups and organizations stand in agreement that the county needs to take bold action to address its housing needs. Link to letter: drive.google.com/file/d/1Yzpg...

Some good news about Charlottesville heading in the right direction with its transportation planning!

Want to learn more about how things are going with the city’s new zoning code? Come to The Haven this Wednesday at 7pm to hear from this fantastic panel of speakers. Register here: homeofva.givecloud.co/cville-plans...

Why do we do what we do? Because we believe deeply that the Charlottesville area should be a place where all are welcome. This includes trans kids and their families, whether living here or visiting to receive care. Shame on anyone who stands in the way of these kids living to their fullest.

Excellent article about our friend Sunshine Mathon!

No parking, no problem!

10 more organizations sign on yesterday (44 total and counting!), including Albemarle Education Association and Charlottesville Education Association. Educators know better than anyone how the local affordable housing crisis negatively impacts our community. We are grateful for them & their support!

Exciting news! One step closer to restoring the vital pedestrian crossing between DC and South Arlington. For context, this new bridge will cut the 25 minutes it takes a Bike to commute time from Crystal City to the Washington National Memorial to a 7-10 minute commute.

Good rail news for Virginia and beyond! www.arlnow.com/2025/01/22/l...

10 more organizations have signed on in the last two days, including The Haven, PACEM, Arc of the Piedmont, International Rescue Committee, and University Democrats at UVA! Still time to sign on!

There is still time to join the amazing collection of 24 (and counting) local organizations advocating for affordable housing in Albemarle County! If your organization is interested in signing, see info at the top of the letter. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Thank you @delegatecallsen.bsky.social for advocating for these changes. Right to council for tenants facing eviction is an important piece of ensuring we have a fair housing system!

Join us today as we work to make Charlottesville a better place for everyone!

@thewaroncars.bsky.social @livablecville.bsky.social "Bordeaux increases SUV parking fees by 30%."

Time for the county to step up and match what the city (Cville) and, even, what UVA is doing to address our area affordable housing crisis. And, a nice appearance by @livablecville.bsky.social as one of many coalition members

“It’s so important to have affordable housing because the people who need affordable housing are often the backbone of our workforce,” Emily Dreyfus said.

We took 100+ hours of footage of Lexington Ave in Manhattan, capturing some 75,000 vehicles before and after congestion pricing started, and found the drop in vehicles appears to be coming entirely from fewer personal cars. Also no change in avg car value. Congestion pricing is working (for now).

I think the most beautiful buildings, the buildings worth honoring and cherishing, are buildings that provide sorely needed housing for our community

We are thrilled the court ruled in favor of the city regarding the development at 2005 JPA! Once again, a ridiculous lawsuit opposing housing in Charlottesville fails. More here in this helpful write up from @infocville.bsky.social: open.substack.com/pub/communit...

Put Wednesday, January 29 at 1130am on your calendar! Come out and try out an e-bike.

A deep & very useful dive into the question of whether UVA should pay taxes on its massive property holdings in Charlottesville & Albemarle County. It's complicated. But the fact that it pays no real estate taxes itself -- only its *private* foundation does -- is a problem.

We would love to have a Governor who prioritizes safe roads AND cares for the safety and well-being of trans people. Instead we have one who does neither.

Still time to sign up and volunteer (and get trained!)

Albemarle County Affordable Housing Advocacy Opportunity: 14 (and counting) amazing local organizations have signed on to a letter asking county leadership to increase funding for affordable housing and implement good housing policies in the AC 44 process. docs.google.com/document/d/1...
