This morning we had a special guest bicycle - a rehabilitated tandem 90's mountain bike! It got its first two-person ride down the CKC!

We shouldn't have to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of tools for them to end up sitting in a closet or a garage for most of the year. That isn't worth the money or the space. Why not start a tool library so we can purchase once and share forever? 🛠💚

How can Kirkland’s response to homelessness evolve with changing conditions? Community Forums on Homelessness in Kirkland Feb 24 or Feb 26, 5-7pm: A brief presentation from City staff, then facilitated, small-group discussions with Councilmembers, City staff, and fellow community members.

We've joined forces w/ @eastsideurbanism.org and @liveablekirkland.org to draft a letter urging Bellevue & Kirkland leaders to make transit in our communities faster & more reliable with things like bus lanes, queue jumps, and more! Sign on here: forms.gle/N9FpaLMord3w...

Your regular reminder Delft’s market square was a surface parking lot as recently as 2004. A razor-thin coalition (19-18 votes) initiated a six-month pilot to help merchants realize cars don’t spend money, people do. Years later, no one remembers the controversy or regrets the decision. *Sound on*

“Implementing raised crosswalks across a state highway ramp is a pretty big step with few other precedents in the state, and illustrates how far WSDOT has come on safety upgrades in recent years.”

If they can put raised crosswalks across I-90 ramps, surely the City Of Kirkland can use them at CKC crossings.

Want to make transit better? We need people at the table who rely on it and care deeply about making it work better for our communities. Sign in PRO for HB 1418 (PTBA Governing Board Members) app.leg.wa.gov/csi/House?se...

If someone chooses to live in a smaller home in the inner city in part to avoid a long commute, they generally don’t pressure society to build them a bigger house with more stuff. So if you choose a bigger stuff-filled house in the suburbs, don’t expect society to build you a fast car commute.

“As researchers and good planners have long understood, it’s far cheaper to build and maintain public infrastructure to service denser forms of housing than it is to service low-density sprawl. It’s one of those intuitive truths that is also borne out by decades of research.”

It doesn't HAVE to be this way. We get a choice. We just have to make it.

Senior citizens bear a disproportionate share of the roadway mortality burden, especially when they’re pedestrians. gothamist.com/news/woman-w...

New homes are a very small percentage of the overall housing stock. I think we should worry about the price of the blue homes rather than the red homes, which have always been at the high end of the market by virtue of the fact that they are brand new.

The #WaLeg is holding a public hearing on Parking Reform (SB 5184) tomorrow at 10:30 AM. Sign your name in "Pro" before the hearing to support reforming minimum parking requirements to make it easier to build affordable housing! https://bit.ly/HDC-SB5184

We are one of the dots on this map! 💪

Made this exact argument about Park Lane here in Kirkland. The distance from the Lake and Central Lot to the center of Park Lane is about 50m. 50m at Costco doesn't even get you past the ADA parking.

My reason for optimism today: 300+ people have already signaled their support for reforming parking mandates in WA. (hearing is Friday) A lot of things are about to get harder for folks. This is one small change that can make life easier. Lets do all we can. 💪 www.sightline.org/2025/01/16/w...

"Say what you will, but people want to drive." Nope. They don't. Folks want to get around easily & comfortably. If you give them other options, they will use them. Additionally plenty of people who DO want to own a car DON'T want to drive for Every. Single. Trip.

WA’s bill to cap parking mandates would swap excessive pavement for more trees, senior living, daycares, and lower-cost housing. #WAleg #ParkinginWA @citizen-cate.bsky.social @jessdbateman.bsky.social

WA's elevator code reform bill, SB 5156, has it's first hearing this Friday. It's a brand new idea and will need the support of experts who can explain why it matters for creating accessible, small-scale apartment buildings. Register to testify or sign in pro: app.leg.wa.gov/CSI/Senate?s...

There's only one more week to RSVP for the Growing Together Lobby Day! We can only win on issues like rent stabilization, transit-oriented development and rural housing solutions with people like YOU telling your legislators to act. RSVP here: forms.gle/yZeg8ffdpRjh...

Super excited to host this conversation w @caryw.bsky.social next month. It’s fair to say ppl make a LOT of assumptions about developers in our “discourse.” Bring your questions! RSVP at urbanistshoreline.org

WA has another good design review reform bill this session, HB 1160, that would tightly limit the process. It has a hearing this Thursday. Sign up to testify or express support here: app.leg.wa.gov/csi/House?se...

We're constantly pushing back against similar attempts by ill informed policymakers who (usually) have no understanding of what is & is not an e-bike. Shabazz Stuart is correct. Barriers to using bicycles and electric bicycles is regressive + shortsighted. nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/12/10/o...

If you're against adding housing supply because you don't think it will produce affordable housing, just wait until you hear what not adding supply does to housing affordability.

Every time I see one of these old photos showing the INCREDIBLE cities we had and destroyed it causes me real physical pain and anguish. I'm just stunned we found no value in keeping real cities intact and instead built freeway hellscapes instead. 🤯

You cannot claim to be pro environment & then be against density. Being anti-density means you are pro sprawl, pro endless roads & commutes, pro development in the farm lands and forests outside of cities. Pro your kids having to move elsewhere so they can afford to buy a house.

I just heard that a fellow low-vision nondriver and disability advocate was killed. He and a friend were almost hit in a crosswalk in Burien, WA and when they expressed frustration, the driver got out and attacked Steven. He died from his injuries. I'm heartbroken and so angry.

City of Kirkland (or Redmond? Or Bothell @masonthompson.bsky.social) should buy these at this _ridiculously_ low price and use them for maintenance work on trails and in downtowny areas. Would look nice with some reflective yellow strips and a city logo on the side. Just sayin'.

This shows how much those onerous regulations have held back construction of needed housing. Look how fast it’s rebounding in Spokane once they get the regulatory and zoning roadblocks cleared.

Bike share systems are a great way to get into winter cycling because you don’t have to worry about maintenance & storage.

Look at all these festive people!

Merry Christmas everyone! Coffee is set up and pancakes are on the griddle! Come on down! ☕🎄🎅🥞
