linkedin has a new feature where every time you're depressed about your employment situation it will send you a notification that makes you want to end it all

Arizona AG Kris Mayes, New Mexico AG Raul Torrez, and Oregon AG Dan Rayfield will begin holding Community Impact Hearings — a national series of townhalls "to hear from the public about the impact of federal firings and DOGE funding freezes across the country." The first will be in Phoenix March 5.

Asked a friend how it's going and they responded "bad but I'm used to it" devastating

DOECHII THE DON DOECHII THE DEAN DOECHII SUPREME THE SWAMP RULER 🐊 👑

Finished last night.

Public libraries: where in the space of an hour you may have a class of excited grade 4 students visiting on a tour, teens making pretend sex noises and an adult telling you about surviving a recent stabbing and his uncomfortable tracheotomy.

I don't know how to explain to people that it's important to read books, important to keep the mind sharp and active through constant learning, important to spend time with actual humans.

I figure if some of my previous actions, words, or writing don't make me cringe then I'm not growing as a person.

as usual, absolutely wrecked by @emilyraustin.bsky.social. i am your exact target audience bestie. thank you for another amazing novel and continuing to make me realize i’m not alone. here are some stickers from my own life that bring the book’s vibes. love u

I’m not sure the rest of the country fully grasps the panic and anger building in DC, MD, and VA. The entire economy of this area is about to collapse. Paychecks are stopping. Careers are ruined. Taxes are about to plummet. Yet no one seems able to stop this madness.

want to print some things and hang them up? go for it (text of the second flyer adapted from one I saw on here last week or so) drive.google.com/drive/folder...

Abby made a handout for people who want to print it out and hand it out where you are. Thanks Abby.

Please talk with your loved ones about Ruby Bridges. Read “I Am Ruby Bridges” by Ruby Bridges 💛 The first Black child at an all-white public elementary school in Louisiana. She was only six-years-old when she made history marching into that school. Ruby Bridges is living history. She's only 70!

Over 2,000 webpages containing LGBTQ+ information have been removed from federal government websites.

Just a wonderful thing to see when the edible hits the afternoon before you’re set to fly home and have a phobia of flying

Book bans impact public libraries & bookstores, but it’s school libraries where they are rampant ❤️‍🩹 Many kids are unable to make it to the public library. They can’t drive, often times the library isn’t in walking distance. It’s not that their grown-ups don’t want them to be library kids. 🧵 1/11

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my f*cking firing. I make $50K a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.” A federal employee

"I’m Khari Arnold, the founder of The Library Dads. We’re a community of dads in Atlanta who get together on the weekends and take our kids to the library. We call them Library Link-ups." dearfathers.com/2024/10/how-...

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990. One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS. #LGBTplusHistoryMonth

We won’t disappear just because you change a website.

happy valentine's day! may your day be filled with sweet things and plenty of romance tropes <3

The Stonewall Inn released a response to the National Parks Service removing the word transgender from the park outside of the Inn. A great reminder that we have to look after each other

MAJOR NEW REPORT FROM @libraryfutures.bsky.social on Digital Censorship in Public Libraries. Today’s censors can be found in big business, courtrooms, schools, newsrooms. They block ideas out of habit, or prejudice or fear and often in secret. Read the report 👇 www.libraryfutures.net/censorship

Do not mess with librarians. They let complete strangers borrow their books. For a living. Even the hardcovers. They are so much stronger than you know.

Society could have been warned of the possibility for democracy to fall to fascism, but unfortunately George Lucas made the prequels ass

only a few chapters in and this book is already brilliant! highly highly recommend

oh god oh no don’t make me use my Russian studies education like this

for example: My library needs people to show up to board meetings! No one ever showed up, then last yr the director announced plans close 3 branches and lay off ~50 people. 6k ppl joined a FB group to save us, and 100s attended board mtgs. SHOW UP!! Tell your board what you love abt the library!

I get to see my best friend in the whole wide world tomorrow!!!! Yippee yippee!!!!!

The organized censorship movement is after books, yes, but also after the institutions that share them: libraries. Sowing doubt and fear about highly trusted public institutions, gutting them of resources (a bipartisan project, we have to be honest about that), and then the great dismantling.

the 𝓭𝓪𝓻𝓴 𝓪𝓬𝓪𝓭𝓮𝓶𝓲𝓪 they don't want you to know about 📜🍂📚🧠

Saving is not a one-sided contract. If you want to be saved, you have to put in the work, too. Libraries and librarians can't save anyone without help. Every library has different needs. Ask your local library what you can do to help.

And as a corollary, it would be really nice if reviewers didn’t keep calling adult books written by women YA. I lost count of the times NETTLE & BONE got described as YA. The heroine is THIRTY. I wrote it for adults! It is fine if teens want to read it, but it’s not YA and that is FINE.

Library workers, library lovers, treat yourself to this thread. My library has a free food shelf (and fridge) for people who want/need food when the food shelf isn't open. It has some staples and ready-to-eat stuff as well as utensils and instructions how to label premade food for major allergens
