I went to the Science Museum yesterday and as well as having a ball with my nearly four year old in their amazing child spaces (god love free London museums) I was utterly charmed by this caption.

This tap knows its own worth.

Just look at these fantastic spaces in brand-new libraries opened across the Brooklyn, NY, and Queens library systems last year (Sunset Park, Inwood, Far Rockaway)

Interesting discussion as part of @britishlibrary.bsky.social #AIDebates about the role of libraries (of all kinds) as trusted, collaborative and knowledge-infused spaces.

Got a lovely little chart from the British Library telling me my books were loaned 3,000 times last year, and 2,000 of those were for my two kids books. I love that so much — libraries are wonderful, and I’m so pleased children can access those resources and discover new books

Thank you to every single reader who borrowed one of my books from the library! Every loan = a few pence royalty. And those pennies add up! This scheme is called PLR AKA free money for published writers, illustrators, editors, translators & audiobook narrator. Register for PLR here! www.bl.uk/plr/

Pre-teen son split a cup of milk over his new keyboard and I discovered him hand washing individual keys in the kitchen sink. He’s now clicking them all back in and it’s a very satisfying kind of ASMR.

It's hard to believe it was a year ago that Marina Warner, Kelly Link, @amalelmohtar.com and I had the pleasure of talking about fairy tales & Angela Carter, a vastly important figure in the Modern Fairy Tale Lit Revival. While libraries are on my mind. Please pause for a moment and realize how amazing the library is. You walk in and say, I would like this book/info/space to sit/reading hour/book club/knitting circle. And they say, welcome. Our doors are open to you. They are lighthouses of democracy. Fight for them.

Sad news. I remember David Lodge speaking as a guest lecturer when I was an undergrad. He was warm, funny, inspiring and unassuming and we knew we were in the presence of a literary giant. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/j...

Loved the RSC’s tender and melancholic production of Twelfth Night at Stratford. Outstanding performances all round.

Robert Walser: “New Year’s? Don’t the words almost smell a bit like wistfulness? When a year stops, another instantly commences, as if one were turning the page. The story keeps on going, and we see the beauty that lies in connectedness.” (“New Year’s Page,” tr. Bernofsky)
