If you see this post a witch.

I don't understand the dearth of "Arguing with people online that preparing food at home costs more than restaurant or takeout" posts I've been seeing. There are real costs and real benefits to each that are neither universal nor obvious. Personally I think people tend to undervalue their own time.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Day 8.

Day 15: I'm infinitely more likely to think games are underrated than overrated. I understand that not every game is for every person. That said, had I purchased The Stanley Parable when it originally released, even at $10-15 (and as opposed to the latest rerelease), I'd have been disappointed.

Day 14: For tactical / MMO RPGs, favorite class is Bow Ranger. jRPGs: thief (Tidus). For fighting games, zoner / zoner/footsie hybrid (which is ironic because I'm not a patient gamer). For FPS/Hero, usually a semi-auto loadout with mobility (also ironic, because I'm 0% twitch 100% cerebral).

Day 13: Best voice acting? I'll be honest again, this just isn't something that I'm evaluating on a game-to-game basis. The jump into Final Fantasy X (which had good, not great voice acting) from nothing was infinitely larger / more impactful than the jump from FFX to anything else.

Day 12: Most annoying character. "One of our settlements is asking for help." - Preston Garvey, Fallout 4

Day 11: Comfort game: don't have one. Not huge on vibe gaming. I do a lot of retro gaming, and replays, but not with any discernible pattern. Closest I've ever come to one was actually this year, Wednesday, Nov. 6th, I started a replay of Danganronpa. Something about hope triumphing over despair.

Day 10: I don't have the liberty of playing many under-the-radar games these days, so an oldie. Historically underrated, The Guardian Legend (NES) wasn't the absolute best at any one aspect (except arguably music) but was consistently great throughout. I have it in my top 10 on the platform.

One of the greatest handhelds of all time, the PlayStation Portable, was released in Japan on December 12th, 2004. Happy 20th birthday, PSP!

“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas” Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas. Hit us up @hallmarkchannel.bsky.social @netflix.com 🙏

Day 9: A bad man, touched by insanity, performs a calculated betrayal at a critical moment, to steal away the power of literal gods from his master, driving him further insane and disfiguring the world beyond recognition. Highlighted by the most badass boss track of all time - FF6's Kefka Palazzo.

Towards the end of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals, you'll witness the heroic rescue of the other party members at the hand of Dekar, who will then tragically perish in the destruction of the shrine you were exploring... until he reappears in the most dire hour, riding a whale, to save the day again

Day 7: Favorite MMO of all time is Guild Wars - I just loved the different playstyles that the job/skill customization awarded you. You could play a Necromancer as an energy battery for other teammates or as Spiteful Spirit Necro that dealt massive AoE damage to mobs. Literally hundreds of skills.

Day 6: This is a tough one. I feel like many games nail world building, and you're basically left with deciding which expertly built world has the best game. From a design perspective, I think Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best built. HM to Elden Ring, Fallout 3, and Disco Elysium.

Taking a break from Path of Exile 2 to watch one of my favorite Christmas movies with the fam.

Day 5: Over FF6 and Chrono Trigger, I'm going to go with a worldwide remake of Another Century's Episode 2 - a brilliant 3rd-person mecha action game from From Software (of Armored Core fame) that originally couldn't leave Japan due to licensing mecha from 14 different anime/manga sources.

Day 4: Swapping between Dragon Warrior 3 & 4 (NES) - never completely finished either of them. Kicking the wheels on League of Legends. In the middle of a spell in which I'm playing Magic: The Gathering Arena frequently, and imminently starting Path of Exile 2.

Every time I read about banning books, I think of this: Reading a book with a gay character will not make you gay any more than reading a book about Einstein will make you a genius. If you're afraid that books might change someone's thinking, you're not afraid of books — you're afraid of thinking.
