I've mentioned how I came to the US on a Fulbright, and met my wife-to-be, then years later was seated at dinner beside Fulbright's widow, who said this kind of connection was why he had wanted the program. Trump is building an America that no-one will want to come to or have anything to do with.

I know I say this a lot, but I hope we are done—finally done—with accepting the GOP’s efforts to equate its “tough on crime” stance as meaning it actually want to ensure that laws are obeyed. It’s about social control—enforcement as a means of regulating disliked out groups.

I’m thinking about federal income tax. If the federal government isn’t meeting its obligations why should we? Specifically, I’d love to see states get the money first and hold it in trust pending litigation. I want to pay my taxes but not to a government that doesn’t respect the constitution.
