Had a great afternoon taking a small but keen group of @llc-rhul.bsky.social students to the Holocaust Galleries at the Imperial War Museum in London. It’s such an impressive exhibition. We also liked the section of Berlin Wall!

"For Cardiff University final-year languages student Darcie James, 23, the headlines hit close to home after her university last month announced plans to cut 400 jobs and close some courses."

Feeling foxy? We love the woodland sculptures on our campus. Watch this space for the others…@royalholloway.bsky.social

A petition in support of Modern Languages at Cardiff, which the university wishes to axe. I know this department very well and their staff and students deserve better.

How fabulous to see this feature from our colleague James Kent in @theguardian.com! The photograph in question can currently be seen in the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London - it runs until 16 February.

We're looking forward to this upcoming talk, hosted by our Centre for Visual Cultures. All welcome. Thurs 6 February, 6-7 pm, Windsor 0-02, Royal Holloway (Egham Campus). Dr Niccola Shearman (Courtauld Institute): 'A black and white world: the German modernist woodcut and the period eye, 1918-24'

A very cool world record. Which books are the record-holders in other languages? In German it is - we think - Grimms' Fairy Tales (but nowhere near 600 translations).

The famous green owl app Duolingo is going even harder into AI made by stolen content. It's not curated by native speakers so you have no idea if what you're learning is correct. Their algorithm overall tries to hit the happy brain juices instead of helping you learn. So here are some alternatives!
