This was such a collegiate symposium with great discussions after papers. Thank you to Pauline Collombier for the invitation to speak. Great papers from everyone and particularly loved hearing of how French female journalists depicted the Irish WoI and the civil war by @clairedubois.bsky.social

We're quickly approaching the 103rd anniversary (30 June) of the Battle of the Four Courts and the fire that destroyed the PROI. Need to catch up on what happened? Read more about it here: www.virtualtreasury.ie/the-1922-fire

Irish author Donal Ryan wins Orwell Prize for Political Fiction for novel Heart, Be at Peace. Tipperary writer says win ‘very unexpected’ for novel that explores the 21st century problems of a small, tight-knit community in Ireland www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...

Usually am in Dublin listening @liliansmith.bsky.social on Saturdays and Sundays in the early morning. It is lovely to be listening to her on late date @rteradio1.bsky.social while on a research trip to my spiritual and true home - Cork. Lovely surprise that Lilian is hosting!

Tomorrow I am going to Cork City and County Archives to read the de Róiste diaries that have not been digitalised. Looking forward.

A Monday evening surprise. Live from Cork Late Date on @rteradio1.bsky.social 11pm

Cork ❤️

This is an inspiring & exhilarating read, as well as being an important social history, which documents the actions of a group of women who dared to challenge the stifling conservatism of 70s Ireland Thanks Belfast Telegraph for this wonderful review of After the Train. In bookshops nationwide

Ready for the weekend.

I'm seeking proposals for an open-access Special Issue of 'Humanities' that I'm guest editing on the topic of 'Celibacy in Irish Women's Writing'! Please share with interested colleagues/students and contact me directly if you've an idea for a submission. Full details: www.mdpi.com/journal/huma...

Thanks Amy Campbell and the Echo for reporting calls to rename Bishop Lucy Park. One proposal is Páirc na mBan, which I support. At the next meeting of Cork City Council, along with Ted Tynan and Niamh O'Connor, I'll formally move instruction to undertake a process exploring options.

A quiet hero; Catherine Corless: thank you.

By coincidence I was passing Tuam today as the hoarding went up around the Mother & Baby Home site. A discreet and respectful veil. It’s 11 years since I took this photo of Catherine Corless at her kitchen table. I rang her today just to say hi. 🧵

Love so much the Van track on the @johncreedon.bsky.social show now.

A small (rotoundish) corgi happy to be listening to the @johncreedon.bsky.social show

Thank you to Professor Lauren Arrington for launching my book at the Frankfurt Modernist conference organised so wonderfully by @georginanugent.bsky.social and Ronan Crowley and hosted by the Irish Consulate, Frankfurt. I was honoured to be in the company of the amazing Zackary Leader.

Oh my goodness - there are so many amazing human tour guides in Dublin - why on earth would one want to hang out with an environment-destroying robot on holidays… 🫣🫠

Just no @dublincitycouncil.bsky.social This is horrendous. There are so many great tours with deeply knowledgeable human tour guides. Why would you do this?

Delighted to be heading to Hinterland Festival in Kells on Sunday June 29th, where I'll be signing and reading from my childhood memoir 'This Boys Heart' and having the chats with the inimitable Gerry Foley. Details here 👇 www.hinterland.ie/p-591-john-c...

Well done @ucdpress.bsky.social and to the editors of, and contributors to, After the Train. What a great contribution to the history of female activism in Ireland.
