I know she’d never do it, but I’d love to see Harris claim that the election was fixed and she actually won just to see how the press covers it even as Trump continues to make the same claim for going on 5 years.

Is there anybody on God's green earth who thinks that the Qataris are giving a plane to Donald Trump without expecting something in return?

Just amazing: Trump grew angry over a Biden-era program with the word "equity" in its name, so he ended it. But a key part of the program was sending money to red states to expand internet access in rural/MAGA country. Now they might not get it. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1950...

Trump went from "everything will be cheaper" to "you will have some financial pain" to "your kids won't have toys for Christmas" to "I'm gonna have a birthday parade that will cost $92 million" within 100 days. #DonTheCon

Dorks, it’s time to throw sand in the gears. They want us to stop teaching, we will teach in the streets. They want us to stop our research, we will use archival data. They want to send us back to the dark ages, we will be a light. We will not lay down and take this.

Don't have anything new to say about AI here. One thing I will say is that higher ed has long been broken. If elites had spent more time thinking through the point of education and how well we really do it than stoking woke panic, maybe we wouldn't be staring at this abyss. nymag.com/intelligence...

Really good food for thought

Thinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. But the oligarchs (currently hoarding much of that $) think it’s their own brilliance & not the accident of standing close to the scientific engine that made them rich.

Before the White House Correspondents Association dinner recedes too far into the past, I want to do a quick thread about something that happened there, which I think is extremely significant -- and is an extremely ill omen for the future of journalism.

The Canadian election result shows that the 2024 US election might have gone very differently if American voters could somehow have known in advance what it would be like to have Donald Trump as president

(1/X) One thing I've learned from dealing with my narcissistic sociopath coworker is that ppl in power (deans in this case) like to say "there is nothing we can do about him" just as American elites like to say "there is nothing we can do about Trump." It's total bs. Look at the Amazon thing...

WATCH: “We are American citizens. We were denied having our passports renewed at the 🇺🇸 embassy in Dakar (Senegal). This is absolutely asinine.” 🤔

We could fund every aspect of our government by selling tickets to urinate on his eventual resting place. Unfortunately this would be a regressive tax on majority blue citizens earning less than $400k

THEY HAVE DEPORTED A TWO YEAR OLD CHILD BIRTHRIGHT CITIZEN This is why I have no patience anymore for people playing games with this stuff.

This has never been about efficiency. The NIH is a remarkably efficient organization. No, this has all been about destroying our investment in science and academia.

I like to drive myself to despair but comparing what qualified as a front page story then and what qualifies as a B4 story now.

Important datapoint in terms of how people understand Trump's second term. He's actually hit and will soon surpass the level of unpopularity he had in his first time. See this from G Elliott Morris's site. Many still have this idea he's more popular, has more robust support. www.gelliottmorris.com

Democrats have no choice but to match this intensity. 1. Advocate passionately for liberal democracy 2. Publicly promise that lawless fascists will be held accountable once they're out of power. If you don't, the fascists will proceed until they win. I know this inconvenient for everyone.

One more rant before I go walk the dogs. 🧵 There is a certain Type of Guy (person, I guess technically, but almost always a guy). You ask this type of guy about politics & they'll tell you they're independent, an iconoclast, & that "both sides" are silly & blinkered & don't see the big picture.

i am growing increasingly concerned about the frequency of the phrase “since the great depression“ showing up in economic headlines

There are certain things you just don’t let JD Vance near: - football trophies - couches - democracy - popes, apparently

Live your life so that when you visit the Pope and he dies the next day everyone’s first thought isn’t “bet he killed him”

I used to think this was a good thing - more freedom to speak! But I’m 100% convinced now the main consequence is the promotion of a kind of gleeful bad faith because people understand interactions are a game they cannot be penalized for losing

Patriots are pro-science and pro-public health. #PatriotsDay Concord, 2025. #vaccines #publichealth

any Democratic elected who says they can't win the politics of "should we give Trump the power to disappear innocent people into a concentration camp" has a terminal case of consultant brain and should be ruthlessly hounded from office

Every meeting I have had this week has started the same way: "How are you?" "Oh I'm good, how about you?" "Fine." And then all of us admitting: "Yeah, I'm fine except for how I'm drowning in anxiety right now." Anyway, read this letter to all of you that I have been working on all week.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

you know things are dire when David Brooks (left) starts sounding like Me five years ago (right)

Time to give Palantir the Tesla and Target treatment. Make it shameful to work there. Organize rallies at their offices.

Cartoonish lying. They have absolutely nothing on this man, who has 34 fewer felony convictions than the President.
